Abstract

The C. D. Baker Photograph Collection depicts former Las Vegas, Nevada mayor Charles Duncan "C. D." Baker from 1916 to 1966. The photographs primarily depict Baker at political events, including campaign stops, fundraising events, meetings with officials and politicians, and at important locations in Las Vegas and Nevada. Baker was photographed with politicians such as U.S. Senator Chic Hecht, President Harry S. Truman, Governor Vail Pittman, and Lt. Governor Cliff Jones.

The Charles Vanda Collection (1955-1987) is comprised of achievement awards, plaques, and certificates that were presented to Charles Vanda throughout his career as a television and radio writer, director, and producer. Also included are newspaper clippings and articles about Charles Vanda, the performing arts, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), a doctoral hood and a UNLV Runnin' Rebels jacket.

Abstract

The Las Vegas Review-Journal Photograph Collection depicts several events in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1935 to 1983 that were documented by Nevada’s largest newspaper, the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The photographs depict the fire at the Las Vegas School in 1935, the fire at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in 1980, an exhibition at the Lost City Museum in 1973, a memorial event honoring the first permanent school in Las Vegas in 1980, and an exhibition at the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society in 1983. The collection also contains photographs of some denizens of Las Vegas, including people at the Hughes Bar in Las Vegas, the last Union Pacific passenger train in Las Vegas, and schoolchildren at the Las Vegas School.

First Lumber Yard. This City of Las Vegas Diamond Jubilee (1905-1980) Historical Marker was placed at the site where Ed Von Tobel Sr. and Jake Beckley established their lumber yard in 1906. The company was the Ed Von Tobel Lumber Company.
