Abstract

Oral history interview with Cindy Funkhouser conducted by Claytee White on January 14, 2010 for the Voices of the Historic John S. Park Neighborhood Oral History Project. Funkhouser discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1980 and working as a cocktail waitress and a bartender at the Four Queens Hotel and Casino. She then discusses owning an antique shop and being one of the forces behind First Friday and the Las Vegas art movement that is rooted in the John S. Park Neighborhood's sense of community.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Vincent Kethen conducted by Claytee White on December 23, 2009 for the Voices of the Historic John S. Park Neighborhood Oral History Project. Kethen was born in 1964 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the year that desegregation of schools started there. He discusses his experiences as an African-American child being bused to a white school, John S. Park Elementary. He also discusses growing up in that era and giving back to the community by being a youth basketball coach.

Oral history interview with Bob Coffin conducted by Claytee D. White on January 29, 2010 for the Voices of the Historic John S. Park Neighborhood Oral History Project. Bob Coffin discusses arriving in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1951 and moving his family to the John S. Park Neighborhood in 1960. He discusses working as a janitor at the Nevada Test Site and as a journalist for Las Vegas Review Journal. He also discusses being elected to the Nevada State Assembly in 1982 and to the State Senate in 1986.
