Oral history interview with Musiette McKinney conducted by Stefani Evans and Claytee D. White on July 2, 2024 for Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Musiette KcKinney recalls a childhood in Illinois and Pomona, California. She describes being recruited out of high school to play at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1975, and then being drafted to the San Francisco Pioneers, an expansion team in the first women's professional basketball league, the Women's Basketball League. Returning to Pomona, McKinney coached basketball part time for Mount San Antonio Community College (Mt. SAC) and earned her A.A. in Criminal Justice. In 1992, McKinney arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada as UNLV's Assistant Women's Basketball Coach for four years under Head Coach Jim Bolla. After two years at the Andre Agassi Academy, McKinney returned to UNLV to work with the Center for Academic Enrichment & Outreach. McKinney was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame with her former team, the San Francisco Pioneers, and the entire Women's Professional Basketball League as "Trailblazers of the Game." Oral history interview with Laura Herlovich conducted by Stefani Evans and Claytee D. White on June 26, 2024 for Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Laura Herlovich describes first arriving in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1983 with the Utah Jazz NBA basketball team, when the team played in the newly built Thomas & Mack Center. Because the Jazz began winning that season, they also ended up selling more tickets to their Salt Lake City home games. After a lifetime on Florida's Gulf Coast, Herlovich attended Bradley University in Indiana, double majoring in Communications and Secondary Education and began her career focusing on sports information, later expanding to entertainment, public relations, and communications. Herlovich discusses being only the second woman to hold her position in male-dominated field and why she moved to Las Vegas permanently in 1984. She recalls the disastrous NBA All-Star Weekend in 2007, and credits Battistone, the Utah Jazz, NBA Summer League, and even the 2007 NBA All-Star Weekend with bringing professional sports to Las Vegas. Oral history interview with Peter Bernhard conducted by Claytee D. White and Stefani Evans on August 13, 2024 for the Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Bernhard recalls his Las Vegas childhood and school years, and playing both baseball and football. He remembers playing baseball at Circle Park before the City of Las Vegas Recreation Department began to organize a City municipal baseball league. They played at Squires Park, at Casino Center near 4th Street; then Cragin Park at Charleston and Hinson; Lyons Park at East Washington and Bruce Street (the first park with a home run fence), and Hadland Park at Eastern and Stewart. Bernhard also describes how the Donna Kutzen Youth Foundation (DKYF), promoted by Marty Kutzen to honor his deceased wife, facilitated team sports in Las Vegas. Bernhard talks about playing for the winning state football champions Western High School (1966-67), playing football and baseball at Harvard University, and how sports connected him to people like Harry Reid and Roy Woofter. Oral history interview with Nathaniel Barlow conducted by Claytee D. White on May 14, 2013 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: A Collaborative Oral History Project. Barlow begins the interview by sharing his experiences growing up in rural Louisiana and shares how he ended up moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1962 as a teenage boy. Barlow shares his views and experiences of Las Vegas at that time, sharing the ways the town has changed and talks about the economic opportunities that were available to him when he moved to Las Vegas. He shares his views on the history of the unions and union leaders in Las Vegas during the times he was a member of the Teamsters Local 881 and later the Culinary Workers Union Local 226. Barlow also talks about the Selective Service Draft for the Vietnam War and his experiences with that. He recalls the history of Las Vegas' historic Westside and shares his roles in the area's history.

Oral history interviews with Brenda Manlove Williams and Johnny Williams conducted by Claytee D. White on April 18, 2016 and May 03, 2016 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In the first interview, Brenda discusses her early life in Nashville, Tennessee and attending Fisk University. She talks about being a member of The Fisk Jubilee Singers and later transferring to Tennessee State University. Brenda recalls moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1972, her employment at Caesars Palace as a cocktail waitress, and the nightlife entertainment at the time. Lastly, Brenda discusses the social and political divides in the African American community of Las Vegas. In the second interview, Johnny describes being one of the first African American card dealers and pit bosses. He talks about his employment at Caesars Palace and changes in the gaming industry. Lastly, Brenda discusses her employment with Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC).

Jarbidge, Nevada Community Archives Collection

Abstract
The Jarbidge, Nevada Community Archives Collection contains scanned images from seven archival collections and document the community of Jarbidge, Nevada from approximately 1910 to 2006. The materials were collected from various families living in Jarbidge in 2006 as part of a project led by Carrie Townley Porter. The images depict early Jarbidge structures, surrounding landscape, the Elkoro Mine, and residents of the area. Also included are images of certificates, correspondence, and newspaper articles relating to the families' histories. Also included in the collection are written summaries of ten oral history interviews of Jarbidge residents conducted in 2006. This collection contains digital surrogates only; the owners and Jarbidge Community Archives retain the originals.

Wilner, Robert
Robert Wilner, born Robert Morris was born April 19, 1970 in Encino, California. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada when he was six months old. From a young age, he wanted to change his last name to match his adoptive parents’, Martin and Linda, last name. That wish became a reality when he was eighteen when his parents were able to find an attorney. Wilner worked as a realtor alongside his mother.

Boruszak, Allan Neal, 1954-
Dr. Allan N. Boruszak is an obstetrician and gynecologist who owned a private practice in Las Vegas, Nevada for 21 years. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois and attended medical school at the University of Illinois. Boruszak was a clinical instructor and chief resident at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana from 1982 to 1983. While in Las Vegas, Boruszak was also an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. From 1993 to 1995 he was president of the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas.

Sobel, Jeffrey David
Jeffrey David Sobel (October 23, 1943 - June 9, 2006) was an elected judge in the Clark County District Court in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Las Vegas in 1969, where he started his career as a deputy public defender, then became chief deputy in the Clark County Public Defender's Office. Sobel practiced law privately from 1973 to 1990, focusing on criminal defense and business and domestic litigation.
