Description

On October 16, 1986, Layne Covington interviewed Elbert Edwards (born 1907 in Panaca, Nevada) about his life in Southern Nevada. Edwards first talks about his family background before talking about what it was like to live in Panaca. He then talks about changes in Southern Nevada, particularly those in Boulder City that have taken place over time. Edwards later talks about the work of his wife and both of their political involvement and his involvement and career in education. The latter part of the interview includes discussion of the building of Boulder Dam, Edwards’ job as a registrar in the Selective Service, and the effects that the war years had on Las Vegas.

Oral history interview with Christiaan Van Buuren conducted by David Schwartz on June 30, 2015 for the Table Games Management Oral History Project. In this interview, Van Buuren recalls his early career working as a card dealer and assistant casino manager in South Africa. He also discusses the gaming school he ran at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, surveillance for Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, work as a casino consultant for Kangwonland casino in South Korea, and work as a floor supervisor for the SLS Las Vegas.

Oral history interview with Madeleine and Will Bradley conducted by Claytee D. White on October 11, 2021 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project.

Madeleine Bradley and her son Will discuss their familial ties to Henry Benjamin Cave, a Confederate soldier, by his widow Daisy Cave. Madeleine and Will talk about the Civil War, life in South Carolina compared to Nevada, and Will's occupation as a pilot. Will also shares his experiences with the military and serving during Operation Desert Storm.

Oral history interview with Rose and Librado Ramos, Jr. conducted by Robert S. Clark on March 15, 1981 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Rose and Librado Ramos begin by discussing Rose's father who immigrated from Mexico to Nevada to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. They describe life in Las Vegas, Nevada during the 1940s, how the city has changed and grown, and nuclear weapons testing. The two also discuss the history of Nellis Air Force Base, the killing of Bugsy Siegel, how the casinos used to treat their customers, and the economic impact gaming and tourism have on Las Vegas.

Oral history interview with Ashley Nitz conducted by Claytee D. White on February 6, 2018 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. In this interview, Ashley Nitz discusses her experiences attending the 2017 Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada with a friend. She talks about making the weekend of the event a "staycation", where she stayed with her friend at the Trump Hotel. Nitz goes into detail on the Route 91 Harvest festival venue and the events of that Sunday night when the shooting began. She speaks of the lockdown in the Tropicana Hotel and the support given there to all of the survivors, such as water and medical aid, as well as her journey home once the lockdown was lifted.
