Ruymann also describes the excitement surrounding the construction of Hoover (Boulder) Dam and the kinds of people it would attract, such as the president, engineers, and dentists concerned with the amount of fluoride in the proposed area for Lake Mead.

Pitzer discusses her childhood in small Illinois towns and meeting her future husband, Doug, when they went to rival high schools. Pitzer also discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in July of 1954, living on Nellis Air Force Base, working as a nurse at Las Vegas Hospital and Clinic from 1954 to 1957, and later working for a private obstetrics practice.
