Abstract

Oral history interview with Edea Trapletti conducted by Claytee D. White on June 21, 2010 for the Voices of the Historic John S. Park Neighborhood Oral History Project. In this interview, Trapletti discusses her early life in Trieste, Italy. She talks about coming to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1950, her initial reaction to the city, and building a home in the John S. Park neighborhood. Trapletti describes the community in the area, religious organizations, and social life at the time. Lastly, Trapetti discusses the future of the John S. Park neighborhood and the other neighborhoods near downtown Las Vegas.

The Charles Duncan (C.D.) Baker Papers (1951-1972) consist of clippings, correspondence, and political brochures related to the life and career of Las Vegas, Nevada Mayor Charles Duncan (C.D.) Baker. The collection also contains several scrapbooks of clippings and a mayoral plaque of appreciation from the City of Las Vegas.

Oral history interview with Nancie B. Watson conducted by Matthew Courtad on November 30, 2004 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Watson reflects upon her roughly 30-year career as a teacher and administrator in Nevada and Utah. She discusses her experiences as a teacher, and describes how certain challenges influenced her decision to pursue school administration and influenced her management approach. She discusses the importance of mentorship programs, as well as working relationships between teachers and administrators.

In this interview, Simonson reflects upon his 10 years of experience as principal at Indian Springs School in Nevada’s Clark County School District (CCSD) from the 1980s to the 1990s. He discusses his working relationship with students and teachers as the school’s only administrator. He also discusses the school’s relationship with the local United States Air Force base and the Thunderbirds.

In this interview, Dr. Wallace reflects upon her career as a teacher and administrator in Dayton, Ohio. She reflects upon some of her favorite programs in the school, such as school lock-ins. She then describes her philosophy of education and school administration, her working relationships with students and teachers, her typical responsibilities, and challenges with instances of school violence. She also discusses what she believes makes a successful school administrator, and why she believes she was a successful principal.

The John C. Kepper Faculty Papers (approximately 1966-1977) are comprised of articles and research on geology written by University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) faculty member, John C. Kepper. The collection also includes drafts and notes of the manuscripts, Paleoenvironmental Patterns in a Middle to Early Upper Cambrian Interval in the Easter Great Basin and Origin of Massive Banded Carbonates with "Bluebird Structures" in the Cambrian of the Eastern Great Basin.

Oral history interview with Linda Van Tuyl conducted by Ruth Brainard on February 22, 1979 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Later, Van Tuyl discusses the integration of accessibility accommodations for people with disabilities throughout Las Vegas. Van Tuyl later shares her thoughts on Medicare and other forms of health insurance.
