Abstract

Oral history interview with June Whitley and Lewis Whitley conducted by Claytee D. White on November 02, 2007 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In this interview the Whitleys discuss moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1958 as newlyweds. Lewis Whitley discusses working at the Nevada Test site as a cook, working for the Clark County Fire Department as a fire hydrant inspector, and then retiring in 2007. June Whitley talks about working as a maid, getting a position with Centel Telephone Company, and then getting a seat on the Board of Regents for the Clark County Community College in 1978. The couple then shares their unique experiences about the growth of the African American community in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Marie McMillan conducted by Kelli Luchs on September 15, 2009, September 23, 2009 October 01, 2009, and November 24, 2009 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Marie McMillan discusses life during the Great Depression and World War II. She then talks about marrying Duke Daly, raising a family with him, Daly passing away, moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1961, and working at the Nevada Test Site. She then discusses being a single mother, marrying James McMillan, and her great passion for aviation. She also talks about her role as a leader in the African American community and her flying records.

Abstract

The Alice P. Broudy Papers on Broudy v United States (1940-2018) comprise materials collected and created by the wife of Charles A. Broudy during her effort to obtain compensation for his death in 1977, which she believed to be a result of repeated radiation exposure. Materials include government documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), correspondence, memos, litigation papers, scholarly reports and articles on radiation exposure and its effects, congressional testimony, speeches, newspaper clippings, books and audiovisual materials. Also included are photographs, slides, and one box of Alice "Pat" Broudy's personal papers. There are two boxes of papers that remain unprocessed.
