Transcript of interview with Beverly Mason by Claytee White, December 21, 2012. Mason grew up in West Las Vegas and was part of the school integration movement in the 1970s. Her involvement in the Las Vegas School System has continued throughout her life. In the interview, she discusses her family and faith, and working at the Nevada Test Site. Beverly attended Whittier College in California, where she majored in Biology. She later received her Masters in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. She brought her experience back to Nevada and went to work for the Nevada Test Site as an industrial hygienist. She chose to leave that job to focus on her family, and found a new career in the School Community Partnership Office as a program manager. She focuses on connecting students with professionals in the science, math, and technology fields to bolster interest in those careers. Beverly has always been involved in her community and her church. Beverly attended the Church of God in Christ when she was growing up, and continues to participate in services today. Her family and her faith are extremely important parts of her life. She is married to Marcus Mason and has a daughter named Cassidy.

Abstract

The Marie and James B. McMillan Photograph Collection (1900-1994) contains photographs of Marie and James B. McMillan and their families. The collection also includes photographs of their friends and professional associates, including journalist Hank Greenspun, Nevada civil rights pioneer J. David Hoggard, and entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. Marie McMillan is a former Las Vegas, Nevada flight instructor and one of the first women to work at the Nevada Test Site in Nye County, Nevada. James B. McMillan was the first African-American dentist to practice in Nevada, as well as a prominent Nevada civil rights leader.

Description

The Shubert Theatre stage as seen from the upper house left side of the balcony seats. Two sections of box seats are visible. The intricate wall designs are visible above the box seats and above the exit for the balcony rows. The 3,000 seat Shubert Theater was built inside what was originally the city’s original YMCA (which opened in 1848). The theater opened in 1921 as a venue for legitimate theatrical performances. The Shubert Theater switched to a combined use venue for movies and stage shows in 1935. The theater was closed in 1953 and reopened as Rev. Earl Ivies' Revival Temple. Just two years later, however, the Shubert Theater was renovated and once again returned to legitimate theater. In 1976, the Shubert Theater was demolished to make way for a parking lot. Description

Oral history interview with Horacio Lopez conducted by Laurents Bañuelos-Benitez on September 05, 2018 for the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project. In this interview, Lopez discusses his early life in Cordova, New Mexico and arriving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1963. He recalls the establishment of the Nevada Association of Latin Americans (NALA), the increase of Latin Americans in the southwest region of the United States, and his role as the Vice President of the Latin Chamber of Commerce. Lastly, Lopez discusses his thoughts on the future of Latino culture.

Colbert, Paul

Paul A. Colbert was born July 28, 1954, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Colbert was affiliated with the Nevada Test Site as part of the Nevada Desert Experience.

Colbert’s work history consists of being a program director and office manager with the Nevada Desert Experience; an environmental engineer registered as a professional engineer in Nirth Carolina; an ordained priest in the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada.

Buer, David Alan, 1953-

David Alan Buer was born on October 25, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas.

Buer is affiliated with the Nevada Test site as a Franciscan brother and as a former staff with NDE. At the time of his oral history interview, Buer was working with homeless and migrant people.

Buer took two years of college at Southwest Missouri State.

Dana, Lafayette H., 1915-2008

Lafayette "Lafe" H. Dana was born November 4, 1915 in Thayne, Wyoming. Lafayette married Shirley Dan on June 30, 1941 and had five children: Dennis, Gayle, NolaJane, JoAnne, and Lynette.

Dana has twelve years of education.

Dana is a retired Live Stock Research Assistant for the Nevada Test Site. Dana was also formally employed as a farmer and power plant operator.
