Abstract

Oral history interview with Norman Christiansen conducted by James Courtney on November 28, 1986 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Christiansen describes his family, and background before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1956 from Montana. Christiansen then talks about working at the Nevada Test Site and about his career as a teacher. He speaks about the various changes he has noticed over the years in Las Vegas, including those in climate, pollution, economy, occupation, and standard of living.

She also discusses her work as a telephone operator in Las Vegas, and at the Nevada Test Site in Nye County, Nevada.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Evelyn and J.C. Gamble conducted by Claytee D. White on August 31, 2010 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Evelyn discusses living on the Westside in the 1950s and describes the development of that area. J.C. recalls his years in the United States Air Force and experiences stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. Lastly, J.C. describes why the Westside was off limits for active Air Force members, and the two speak about their employment at the Nevada Test Site.
