An artist's rendering of Boulder Canyon. Text on front of postcard: "Hoover Dam site, Boulder Canyon, looking downstream." Text on back of postcard: "Work is rapidly progressing on the new Hoover Dam, thirty miles southeast of Las Vegas. This tremendous project will cost the government in excess of $165, 000, 000.00 and will take about eight years to complete. The dam site is where the river disappears in the center of the picture. Arizona is on the left, Nevada on the right. Within a decade, the parched desert lands to the north will be washed by the waters of the largest man-made lake in the Western Hemisphere, impounded by the Hoover Dam, the greatest structure since Cheops."

Description

On February 27th, 1979, Pamela Atkins interviewed Vivian Harwell in Las Vegas, Nevada. Harwell begins the interview by explaining her reasons for moving to Las Vegas from Arkansas, and the type of living quarters that she had. She then goes on to talk about the recreation in Las Vegas in addition to the Nevada Test Site and local politics. The two later discuss the convenience of having local colleges available in Las Vegas and the availability of children’s activities in Las Vegas. The interview concludes with Harwell’s personal reflection on her time living in Las Vegas, and that she does not regret moving to Las Vegas.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Ken Frejlach conducted by Chuck Williams on January 21, 2015 for the Friends of Red Rock Canyon in Nevada Oral History Project. Frejlach begins the interview by talking about his family life and how they started working on Oliver Ranch near Blue Diamond, Nevada. He describes their duties while working and the Carole Lombard plane crash site. Frejlach also talks about his mother's medical illness. He talks about his move the town of Blue Diamond, and describes his time there attending school. Lastly, he speaks more about the Oliver Ranch property.
