Cave Nightclub Records

Abstract

The Cave Nightclub Records (1992-1994) are comprised of materials generated during the planning and construction of the Cave Nightclub in Las Vegas, Nevada. It opened in 1992 as a straight nightclub. It changed ownership in 1993, and reopened on September 3, 1993 as a gay nightclub and closed early in 1995. The collection contains policy documents, building plans, and promotional and publicity materials, as well as artifacts, including waiter uniforms from the nightclub.

The Mary Jane Griffith Reiter Papers date from 1919 to 1964. The papers document Nevada history and her family’s business and civic work; they contains her grandmother's will, a ledger detailing the costs and expenses for rental properties, and reports and minutes from the Colorado River Commission. It also includes a 1964 bibliography of materials on Nevada.

Bogdanovich briefly describes the gypsum mines where her father worked in Blue Diamond, Nevada. Romans talks about her childhood, her daily life in Blue Diamond, and her education.

Oral history interview with Vincent Kethen conducted by Claytee White on December 23, 2009 for the Voices of the Historic John S. Park Neighborhood Oral History Project. Kethen was born in 1964 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the year that desegregation of schools started there. He discusses his experiences as an African-American child being bused to a white school, John S. Park Elementary. He also discusses growing up in that era and giving back to the community by being a youth basketball coach.
