Abstract

Oral history interview with Gerardo Topacio, Philomena Topacio, and Teresa Prezgay conducted by Claytee D. White on April 13, 2018 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Gerardo discusses his early life in Manila, Philippines. He remembers the attacks in Pearl Harbor on December 07, 1941, the Japanese and Philippines conflict, and immigrating to the United States. Gerardo talks about his employment with Edgerton, Germeshausen, and Grier, Inc. (EG&G) and working at the Nevada Test Site. Philomena recalls her career in the hotel industry and being a member of the Culinary Workers Union Local 226. The couple was joined by their daughter, Teresa Prezgay. Prezgay talks about her career as a math teacher and promotes the increase of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

Oral history interview with Nancy Lough conducted by Claytee D. White and Stefani Evans on September 16 and October 14, 2024 for the Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Lough talks about women in sports, her personal athletic journey, her Sport Management Program and research at UNLV, and the impact of sports on the city of Las Vegas. She recalls her early life in Colorado, where she played many sports and eventually ran cross country for Adams State College in the 1980s. In 1988, she moved to Texas to work as a graduate assistant for Peggy V. Hill had the opportunity to coach the cross country team at the very beginning of their season. After that experience, Lough went on to coach various other teams and enjoyed tremendous success, but later shifted her focus and came to UNLV to start their Sports Management Program, which is still a successful program to this day. Kozloff, Jake

Jacob "Jake" Kozloff was a casino investor and manager in Las Vegas, Nevada during the 1940s and 1950s. Born in Russia, he moved to Redding, Pennsylvania in 1905. Beginning in 1933, Kozloff was president and treasurer of Lebanon Valley Brewing Company in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. In the 1940s he moved to Las Vegas where he invested in and oversaw operations at the Thunderbird, the Frontier (1951-1955), and the Golden Nugget.
