Brinkerhoff, Donald Carl, 1930-

Don Brinkerhoff of Lifescapes International designed features of Las Vegas casinos such as the Mirage volcano, the Bellagio conservatory, the Wynn Las Vegas mountain, the Encore Casino gardens, and the surroundings of the Welcome to Las Vegas sign on the Las Vegas Strip. He grew up in the southern California suburb of El Monte.

Description

On April 15, 1975, Edna Jackson-Ferguson (born 1897 in Overbrook, Kansas) provided a narrative-style oral history about her and her husband Jack’s experiences during the building of the Hoover Dam. Jackson-Ferguson provides many details about the way of life living in the camp with workers of the dam, the tasks required of those workers in building the dam, and some of the actual processes of pouring the concrete for the structure. She also talks about food, transportation, weather, and entertainment during the time. To conclude the interview, Jackson-Ferguson mentions some of the other job positions her husband held and their pride in being a part of the Hoover Dam’s construction.

The architectural drawings and maps series (1943-1985) contain projects and diagrams primarily pertaining to the planning and development of Boulder City, Nevada. The series also includes drawings from Las Vegas, Nevada, locations throughout Southern Nevada including Lake Mead, and California. Drawing types include master site plans and zoning maps for Boulder City and its subdivisions, architectural drawings for residential homes, railroad track maps, and topographic maps.
