Abstract

Oral history interview with Arthur D. Schlauder conducted by Geneva Beasley on June 30, 1975 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Schlauder discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1946. Schlauder also discusses his career with Las Vegas Machine, a machine shop and steel fabrication company. Schlauder later discusses being a member of social clubs such as the Purchasing Agents Association and the Kiwanis Club. Lastly, Schlauder discusses the change and growth of the Las Vegas Strip as well as the city overall.

Oral history interview with Jeff McColl Sr. conducted by Dennis L. Weigang on March 09, 1976 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In the interview, McColl discusses his early life moving back and forth between California, Nevada, and Texas before settling in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1925. McColl also discusses his work as a locomotive engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad Company, life in Las Vegas during the late 1920s and 1930s, and industrial and urban growth in Las Vegas.

Oral history interview with Robert "Bob" Oliver conducted by Dave Wolfe and Charles Williams on August 30, 1993 for the Friends of Red Rock Canyon Oral History Project. Oliver shares information about his family's history, and how they moved from Vernal, Utah to the Las Vegas, Nevada area in the 1930s. He recalls interactions with the Wilson family and their ranch in the area that is now Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. Lastly, Oliver describes the three springs on his property, equipment he had for the ranch, and native species around the area.

Oral history interview with Marianne Carpenter conducted by Jim Campbell on March 02, 1977 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Carpenter recalls the crash of Carole Lombard’s plane, the early above ground atomic tests, pollution, and other social and environmental occurrences that have taken place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Carpenter also discusses the Helldorado Parade, the Downtown area, and the Mesquite Club. Lastly, she offers an overview of her experience working for Nellis Air Force Base and her job at the Enviornmental Protection Agency (EPA).
