Abstract

The Franklin M. Murphy Photograph Collection, dates from approximately 1929-1933 and consists of black-and-white photographic prints with 27 corresponding negatives. The majority of the images show locations in and around the current site of Hoover Dam and Lake Mead in southern Nevada and Arizona with a focus on the geology of the area; a smaller number show individuals and locations in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Fraser, Dale

Dale L. Fraser was born December 11, 1935, in Ely Nevada. Fraser has three children: Deborah Schubert, Selena Weaver, and Tina Huston.

Fraser was enlisted in the United States Army.

Fraser obtained a bachelor of science degree in geological engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Harbert, Raymond Chester

Raymond Chester Harbert was born on Spetember 30, 1922 in Los Angeles, California. Raymond married Virginia.

During World War II. Harbet was enlisted in the United States Army as part of the Armored Field Artillery Battalion.

Harbet obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara Univerity. Harbert pursued garduate studies at Georgia Tech and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Harbert was employed as the resident engineer at the Nevada Test Site.

Radeloff, Cheryl

Dr. Cheryl Radeloff was born in Dayton, Ohio, and grew up in Beavercreek, Ohio in the 1960s. Radeloff received her master's degree in sociology from the University of Toledo in 1996, and heard about a research position at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). She contacted Dr. Maralee Mayberry and Dr. Peg Rees of the UNLV sociology department and was hired as a graduate assistant through Promise (Projects for Interdisciplinary and Multi-cultural Study in Education).

Stearns, Sam

Sam Stearns was an owner-operator of several casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1935 he bought the Meadows Club on Boulder Highway with his brother Dave Stearns and Larry Potter. By 1941, the Stearns brothers also operated the Northern Club in downtown Las Vegas, which Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel invested $18,000 in.

Crowe, Cecile Dotson, 1911-2003

Cecile Dotson Crowe was born October 17, 1911 in Millville, Utah. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1923 with her family. At the time, the town was a very small and friendly railroad town where everyone knew everyone else. After high school, Crowe went to the University of Nevada, married her husband Charles Gerald, and raised her children and grandchildren. She also worked for the Chamber of Commerce and on the Boulder Canyon project.

Shane, Michael J.

Michael Jay Shane grew up in Kew Gardens in the Queens borough of New York City, New York. Shane graduated from High School of Performing Arts and later attended Peabody Conservatory of Music before leaving to launch his full-time entertainment career. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1995. He played piano at Wynn's Tower Suite Bar, Bootlegger, and Italian American Club.

Moore, Joyce

Joyce Moore was born May 8, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. Her family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in December of 1953. Moore attended school at Sunrise Acres Elementary School until eighth grade and then went to Rancho High School, graduating in 1962. As of 2018, she works as an archivist at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
