Abstract

Oral history interview with Jim Bradstreet conducted by Jean Lewis on March 8, 2003 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Bradstreet discusses his upbringing and first job teaching in New York in 1962, before becoming a principal at Southern Cayuga Central School in 1974 and retiring in 1987. He then discusses how he became superintendent of the Mineral County School District in Nevada, his personal philosophy to educational administration, and pressures that he faced as an administrator. He also discusses his job duties, and provides suggestions for individuals considering becoming principals and administrators.

In this interview, Taylor talks about her birth in Reno, Nevada, growing up in Minden Valley, Nevada, and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1943. She reflects on her education, her parents careers, and her early marriage before describing the couple's first home in Henderson's "Victory Village." Later, she discusses her own career and what it was like living in Nevada in the 1950s and 1960s.

Tim Harney begins his interview discussing his moved to Las Vegas in 1965 to take a teaching position at Rancho High School. He additionally discusses his family living in the John S. Park Neighborhood from 1973 to around 1987.

Oral history interview with Marion Allen conducted by Dennis McBride on April 14, 1986 for the UNLV University Libraries Oral History Collection. In this interview, Allen discusses the construction of the Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam) and his father’s employment on the dam. He talks about becoming a dam construction worker and the working conditions during the early stages of the dam. Allen recalls the labor strike in 1935 and the opening of the dam. Lastly, Allen talks about engineer Frank Crowe’s involvement with the the project.
