The Water Resources series (1942-1978) contains reference materials, drafts and proofs of the book Water - A History of Las Vegas, commissioned and published by the Las Vegas Valley Water District in 1975. Florence Lee Jones and John F. Cahlan co-wrote the first volume, and she authored the second volume by herself. The series includes research, correspondence, minutes, notes and clippings, and reports.

Abstract

The William F. Harrah College of Hospitality Records (1970-2016) contain documents pertaining to the College of Hospitality at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Materials include student projects, manuscript drafts by Jerome (Jerry) Vallen, brochures and promotional material, newsletters, and magazines. Also included are photographs of casino and hospitality industry workers and hospitality related events. Also included are publicity photographs of entertainers as well as models and showgirls in beauty pageants and at casinos. It is presumed that these photographs werey used for creating Premier: The Magazine of the UNLV Harrah College of Hospitality.

The Fred A. and Clara G. Monson Papers (1860s-1976) consist of photographs, postcards, scrapbooks, greeting and sympathy cards, and documents related to Fred Monson's employment and the Monson's Las Vegas "Rock House" residence.

Cashman, James, Sr., 1884-1962

James "Big Jim" Cashman was born to Benjamin Franklin Cashman and Ella Mary Stovall in Ladue, Missouri on December 16, 1884. Cashman moved to Searchlight, Nevada in 1904 and began working a variety of jobs until he opened an automobile garage in approximately 1910. Cashman later sold automobiles and operated in Searchlight until the mining boom halted around 1920. As a result, Cashman decided to move his business to the growing city of Las Vegas, Nevada. Cashman met his future wife, Leah Barker, in Las Vegas and they married in 1923.
