Earl G. Heron oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Earl G. Heron conducted by Claytee D. White on November 22, 2024 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. Heron recalls his childhood in Queens, New York, where he learned automobile mechanics from his father. He used that knowledge to become a mechanic on fighter planes for the United States Air Force. Heron was stationed for some time at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada. He also was stationed in San Antonio, San Bernadino, Wichita Falls, and Fort Bragg. He became a flight engineer and took part in Red Flagg War Games Training while stationed at Nellis AFB. Digital audio available; no transcript available.

Oral history interviews with Stella Champo Iaconis conducted by Elizabeth Nelson Patrick on July 22, 1981 and July 23, 1981 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Iaconis discusses her personal history and family background. Iaconis also recalls moving from Sparks, Nevada to Las Vegas, Nevada and provides a recollection of the city. Iaconis then discusses Block 16 and the increase of women working in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Ida Browder Kelley conducted by Dennis McBride on April 21, 2004 for the Las Vegas Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Archives Oral History Project. In this interview, Kelley discusses how she met the former Lieutenant Governor of Nevada, Fred S. Alward, through her mother, who was active in politics. Kelley talks about her own thoughts about Alward, including the type of person he was and how he carried himself. Kelley later describes her own experience in politics including attending session meetings and campaigning.

The Gay Fiction Book Collection (1951-1976) is a small collection of fiction books published from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s that have gay men as the lead characters or storylines that relate to the gay community. The majority of the books were published in San Francisco, California and were collected and donated by Dennis McBride.
