Description

Chari Horne interviews hairdresser Irene Sprague Black at a beauty salon in Las Vegas. Born in 1919 in Delta, Utah, Black moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1924. During this interview Black discusses early Las Vegas, local schools, homes, friends, family life, the Mormon Church, Mesquite, Indian Reservation, Downtown, Hoover Dam, and Bunkerville, Nevada.

Frehner, Vivian, 1914-1999

Born in St. Thomas, Nevada on May 6, 1914, Vivian “Viv” Frehner was a lifelong resident of southern Nevada. He worked on the construction of the Hoover Dam before becoming deputy sheriff in Caliente, Nevada in the 1950s. Frehner also worked as a rancher and heavy equipment operator. Viv Frehner died on July 18, 1999.

Dondich, Josie, 1908-1976

Josie Dondich (1908-1976) owned the Cut Rate Liquor Store located at 132 South Fifth Street (now Las

Vegas Boulevard) in the 1940s in Las Vegas, Nevada. She married Ali T. Dondich, a veteran and a construction worker for the Hoover Dam project. The couple had three children, Alex, Elena, and James. Josie Dondich passed away in 1976.

Abstract

The Richard Ronzone Photographs depict Las Vegas, Nevada storeowner and politician Richard “Dick” Ronzone and his family from 1920 to 1989 and 2001. The photographs primarily depict Ronzone at Ronzone’s Store in Las Vegas, at events with politicians such as Nevada Governor Paul Laxalt, or at the Las Vegas Valley Water District. The photographs also depict Ronzone during his service with the Nevada National Guard; portraits of Ronzone, his wife Ann Roeth Ronzone, and his mother Bertha Ronzone; and events during Ronzone’s tenure as a Clark County Commissioner from 1972 to 1980.
