Description

The dormant Fontainebleau Las Vegas, as seen behind the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The Fontainebleau was announced as the Las Vegas version of a classic Miami Beach hotel. Construction started in 2007, and stopped in 2009. In November of that year, financier Carl Ichan purchased the unfinished Fontainebleau out of bankruptcy. The following year, he sold off the fittings and furnishings purchased for the hotel. In late 2015, the Fontainebleau was listed as being for sale.

David's mother, Joyce Straus, was a prominent Las Vegas artist, whose eclectic style and commitment to art education made her home/art studio a local feature. Heidi's father Jay Sarno, founded Caesars Palace and Circus Circus. The couple are hoping to continue Joyce's legacy through the Joyce Straus Foundation.

Shepherd, Henry S.

Henry Shepherd was born and raised on a plantation in Tallulah, Louisiana, where the primary crops were peanuts and corn. When he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1967, he worked as a bartender at the Sands Hotel. Shepherd was able to send his daughter to college because he was working for the Culinary Workers Union Local 226. Leaving the Sands Hotel, he went to the Landmark Hotel and Casino, and then went to Circus Circus Hotel. The Luxor Hotel and Casino was his final stop in a bartending career that spanned over three decades.

Conedy, Clifford B., 1952-

Clifford Conedy played on the football team at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, beginning in 1973. The university got him a job working security as part of the youth patrol at Circus Circus Hotel-Casino. He lived in Washington State and came back to Las Vegas in 1977 and worked security for the Fremont Hotel and Casino and for the Stardust. He became a dealer for the Fremont and also worked for Little Caesars Casino, the Mint Hotel and Casino, El Rancho, the Imperial Palace, the MGM Grand, the Flamingo Hilton, and Casesars Palace.
