Beginning in clerical work at the Nevada Test Site, Daniel rose to become the Assistant Hotel Manager at Union Plaza Hotel and Casino. She established the Hotel Managers Association and the Professional Black Women's Alliance. After leaving the gaming industry, Daniel returned to school to train for a career in education. She worked closely with the Displaced Homemaker Program at the Community College of Southern Nevada and later with Help Centers of Southern Nevada.
Essie Shelton Jacobs (Essie Jean Shelton) was born in Fordyce, Arkansas on July, 11, 1925. Jacobs arrived in Las Vegas 1963 and worked in housekeeping at Aladdin Hotel for twenty-three years. Active in the Culinary Union, she worked as a supervisor and shop steward.
Mary Lee Orduno (nee Ikard) was born on February 2, 1926 in Kyle, Texas. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and worked as a cocktail waitress and married Ralph Orduno in Las Vegas in December 1968.
Viola Johnson was born October 12th, 1921 in Fordyce, Arkansas. Johnson moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1942 and lived in a tent. During her interview, she describes working conditions for maids and the Culinary Union strikes between 1969 and 1984.
