Abstract

Oral history interview with Talia Levanon conducted by Barbara Tabach on January 21, 2019 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. In this interview, Levanon discusses her role as the Director of Israel Trauma Coalition (ITC), an organization that provides trauma care and counseling in Israel and around the world. She recalls that three weeks after the 1 October shooting, she and a team from ITC arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada to offer training and support and worked closely with Las Vegas Metro Police Department. In this interview, Walsh recalls his early life in New York City, New York, and working for the New York Police Department. He then recalls moving and joining the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1998. He discusses his current position as Deputy Chief/Division Commander of Tourist Safety, his role in the aftermath of the October 1, 2017 mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, and community healing.

Oral history interview with Christina Gruber conducted by Barbara Tabach on March 2, 2019 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. In this interview, Gruber shares her experience living in Las Vegas, Nevada since 1997 and as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), mother of two, and physical fitness enthusiast. She recalls being shot during the Route 91 Harvest Festival and being rescued by strangers. She recalls the chaos of the evening, but also how strangers worked together to comfort each other amidst the terror. She discusses dedicated her athletic races to those who were murdered that evening, and how it has helped her recovery. Digital audio and transcript available.

Oral history panelist event with David Becker, John Fudenberg, Dr. Deborah Kuhls, Jay Pleggenkuhle, and Joy Rineer conducted by Claytee D. White on October 5, 2018 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. This panel event took place at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Lied Library to mark the one year anniversary of the 1 October shooting. Panelists include photojournalists present at the shooting, police officers responding to the shooting, trauma doctors handling the victims and their many injuries, and community members who helped initiate and create the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden.

The Lewis Homes Records (approximately 1990-2009) contain the records of Lewis Homes, a Southern California based company that was one of the top home builders in the Las Vegas Valley during the 1990s and 2000s. This collection focuses on the Orchards and Orchards West neighboorhood in eastern Las Vegas, Nevada and contains a parcel map, history of title claims for certain land parcels, and documents related to site development. The collection also contains some material related to the Southern Nevada Homebuilders Association in the 2000s.

Oral history interview with Belia C. Cruz conducted by Janel Houldsworth on October 25, 2004 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Cruz reflects upon her career as an elementary school teacher and principal in Imperial County, California from the 1970s to the 1990s. She discusses her upbringing, and how her family influenced her involvement with programs such as Head Start, and how this translated into a teaching career. She describes the process by which she eventually became a principal, and her work in bilingual education. She also offers her stance on the contemporary status of the education system, and the standing of bilingual education in the Clark County School District (CCSD). She concludes by describing her experience as a substitute teacher in CCSD, and her involvement with bilingual education.

Oral history interview with Dr. David A. Price conducted by Wendy Testa on October 22, 2008 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Dr. Price reflects upon his more than 30-year career as an elementary school principal in Montana and Nevada from 1970 to 2004. He discusses his upbringing and the process by which he became a teacher and eventually an administrator, and how certain teachers and administrators during his middle and high school years influenced his decision to teach. He describes his approach to education, and his regular job responsibilities as principal. He offers suggestions for individuals interested in pursuing school administration, and compares his salaries from working in Montana to working in Nevada. He also describes different teaching models, and shares his opinion of what aspects he believes are the most effective.
