Eadington, William R.

University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) Professor William R. Eadington joined the faculty as an economist in 1969. He was the first holder of the Philip J. Satre Chair in Gaming Studies, a professor of economics, and founding director of the Institute for the Study of Gambling and Commercial Gaming at UNR.

Early, Charles Alvin, Jr., 1924-2012

Charles Alvin (Tod) Early Jr. was born in Yerington, Nevada and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1963. He started Central Credit Inc., the first credit check company for casinos to check credit worthiness of gamblers. He later sold the company to Chilton Corporation. He passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 9, 2012.

Gill, Benjamin

Benjamin Gill arrived in Goldfield from Seattle, Washington around 1905. An accountant, Gill worked for a number of mining and brokerage companies. From 1906, he was secretary and local agent for the Begole Mining Syndicate, owned by mining financier, F. H. Begole, of Marquette, Michigan. He also acted as secretary for the Nevada Registration and Trust Company of Goldfield.

Gold, Hyman

Musician Hyman Gold was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 26, 1914. A cellist since the age of twelve, Gold attended the Cleveland Institute of Music. He performed with many major symphonies and opera companies throughout the country. He was president of the Gold 'N' Cello Recording Company and performed on many albums.

Goodwin, George

George Goodwin was a radio station director during the 1940s through the 1960s. He is best known with inventing the first Tune-Dex cards, a series of 3" by 5" cards with lyrics, melodies and chord symbols for musicians so they could carry more music aroundvwith them. Due to poor health, he retired in 1963 and died in 1965.

Partridge, John Myron

John Myron Partridge was an educator and athletics official in Southern Nevada for thirty years. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in the early 1950s and helped found the Southern Nevada Officials Association in 1954. He was the State Commissioner of the Nevada State American Softball Association and he helped organize track and field competitions in Las Vegas and the surrounding areas. He also wrote the book Job Training Opportunities for Young People in Las Vegas, published in 1952.

Patterson, Lamont

Lamont Patterson (1916-1997) was a jazz columnist and Las Vegas, Nevada resident. Originally named William Patterson, he served as a press and protocol officer for the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Writing under his nickname "Lamont" Patterson, his career as a reporter and columnist began in 1939. Patterson personally knew many artists such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, and Liberace. He died in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is buried at Palm Mortuary in Henderson, Nevada.
