Abstract

Oral history interview with Oscar Goodman conducted by David Schwartz on January 05, 2009 for the Remembering Jay Sarno Oral History Project. In this interview, Goodman discusses initially meeting Jay Sarno and representing him as his lawyer. He remembers the allegations of organized crimes within Sarno’s properties, Las Vegas gaming at the time, and Sarno’s involvement with the development of Las Vegas. Lastly, Goodman talks about becoming Mayor of Las Vegas.

Oral history interview with Bob Michael conducted by Jeff Van Ee on April 17, 2010 for UNLV University Libraries Oral History Collection.

In this interview, Bob Michael talks about growing up in Las Vegas, Nevada, memories from his childhood, and details of the changing Nevada landscape. Michael shares his expertise in environmentalism and the history of land protection in the state. He discusses areas of the state he feels should be left untouched by humans, his thoughts on protecting lands as National Recreation Areas (NRAs) including the Spring Mountains, and wilderness acts that have been passed and changed throughout the 1900s.

Oral history interviews with Foothill High School students conducted by Claytee D. White on March 24, 2009 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project.

Students from Foothill High School in Henderson, Nevada are interviewed in front of one another as part of a class by Claytee D. White. Those interviewed include Shardé Smith, Evan Roquemore, Whitney Welch, RosAnne Ritchie, and Lindsay Gingrich. Claytee D. White is also interviewed by unnamed students. Each participant talks about their life, what brought them to live in Las Vegas, details of where they may have lived previously, and their interests and hobbies.

For materials within the last 5 years, contact photo@unlv.edu or call 702-895-3036. This finding aid contains the thematic slides, contact sheets, and audiovisual materials taken and used by UNLV Creative Services for publicity and promotional purposes from approximately 1959 to 2009. The majority of the materials consist of images from various academic departments, athletics, buildings and historical views of campus, as well as faculty and student life. Also included in the collection are an assortment of print materials, such as theater and music programs, as well as audio cassettes and film reels from anniversary events around campus.

He remembers his father’s hotel business, his investments in hotels with Jay Sarno, and the increase in popularity of themed hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada throughout the 1970s. Corash talks about the opening of the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino, the planning for the Grandissimo, and how significant Caesars Palace was to the future of Las Vegas hotels and casinos.
