Abstract

Oral history interview with Patricia Becker conducted by Claytee D. White on April 15, 2014 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods: An Oral History Project of Ward 5. In this interview Patricia Becker discusses her extensive law career serving as deputy attorney general and as the first woman selected to serve on Nevada's Gaming Control Board. She then discusses moving on to become general counsel for Hararh's Entertainment International and to becoming the senior Vice President of corporate affairs and legal adviser for Aladdin Gaming. She finally discusses the opening of her law firm, Patricia Becker and Associates, and her work with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Oral history interview with Barbara Buckley, Kevin Buckley, Michael Buckley, Jill Buckley and Lindsay Stilwell conducted by Claytee White on January 28, 2014 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods-- An Oral History Project of Ward 6. Kevin discusses the early Pinto Palomino neighborhood, working as a teenager, black-white relations, his education, serving as one of Howard Hughes physicians, and the move to Las Vegas. Barbara talks about the difference between Flintridge, California, and Las Vegas in 1968 when the family first arrived. The family members also discuss community participation and hotel-casino entertainment for young couples, and rearing children in Las Vegas.

Oral history interview with Barry W. Becker conducted by Barbara Tabach on June 04, 2014 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods--an Oral History Project of Ward 1. Becker recalls the growth of Las Vegas, Nevada and the changes made from when he initially came in the 1970s. Becker then discusses meeting numerous people in various occupations associated with land development. He also recalls watching the neighborhoods growing and spreading out through the Las Vegas Valley.

Oral history interview with Daniel Connell conducted by Shirley Emerson on November 18, 2013 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods: An Oral History Project of Ward 8. In this interview Daniel Connell discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1954, marrying his wife Linda after returning from the military, and moving to the Westleigh neighborhood of Ward 1 in 1973. He also talks about his family life, the state of his neighborhood throughout the years, and being hired by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

He also discusses the various famous people he performed for and the July 1989 musicians strike.

In this interview Cathie Millson discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1984 with her husband and one-year-old daughter. She then discusses having two more children, moving into the Rancho Bel Air neighborhood, and about raising her children in Rancho Bel Air. She details the growth of Las Vegas from a small town to a large city and how revitalization of downtown has brought young people back to Rancho Bel Air to raise their families.

Oral history interview with Joseph Wilcock conducted by Claytee D. White on April 17, 2014; April 18, 2014, and April 30, 2014. for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Wilcock recalls working in Bal Harbour, Florida, and coming to Las Vegas, Nevada to attend the School of Hotel Management at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Wilcock explains gaming terminology and the process of dealing and cheating the casino. He discusses the relationship between Caesars in Atlantic City and Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and between operating a gaming company in New Jersey and Nevada. He also recalls opening day at the Mirage, opening the Treasure Island, and how Wynn hotels hired and promoted from within, but instituted a minority recruitment and training program to diversify the workforce.

Gans discusses working as an electrician and attending the Aviation Academy in Reno, Nevada and then as a flight instructor there. He also discusses working in measuring radioactivity from nuclear testing, working at the Clark County Sanitation, and at the Las Vegas, Nevada Convention and Visitors Authority as a vice president there.
