Abstract

Roundtable oral history interview conducted by Lisa Gioia-Acres with some of the founding members of the Musicians Wives Club of Las Vegas on October 1, 2008 for the All That Jazz Oral History Project. Interviewees include Renee Rampton, Rosemaria Gordon, Myrna Williams, Phyllis Kluger, and Leslie Marsh. Also included are two photographs (reproductions) taken on June 4, 1964 at the installation ceremony of the first officers. The Miss Black Teenager Pegeant of Las Vegas consists of a single program from the third annual pageant sponsored by the LINKS, Inc. Las Vegas Chapter and the Clark County School District S.O.U.L. Club. The event was held Saturday, June 25, 1977 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Abstract

The Roosevelt Fitzgerald Interview for "Nevada, One of Fifty" Program consists of one audiocassette. This series of radio programs produced by the University of Nevada, Reno, was part of the U.S. Bicentennial celebration, and explored various aspects of the state: history, politics, immigrants, Native Americans, government, ghost towns, art, and some individuals. Every show featured a different host and guest. In this interview, Dr. Mark Weinstein interviews Dr. Roosevelt Fitzgerald on the subject of "Ethnic groups in Nevada." Fitzgerald was a University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) faculty member and Director of the Ethnic Studies program. He dedicated his life to teaching and was well-known as a researcher and writer of the history of the Black experience in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This collection in unprocessed. See Access Note for more information. The Oakes Las Vegas Studio Photographs [UNPROCESSED] consist of a sample book of photographic postcards by Oakes Vegas Studio. It contains images from the 1920s through 1937. Images depict general Las Vegas scenes, Fremont Street, Hoover Dam, desert areas near Las Vegas, Native Americans, Native burial sites, the Lost City, Lake Mead, and more.

The Veterans' Voices: We're Listening Oral History Project (2021-2024) contains fifty interviews conducted by members of two UNLV entities, the Women’s Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) and the Military & Veteran Services Center (MVSC). UNLV is nationally recognized as a Military Friendly School, and this project contains interviews spanning all branches and eras of the U.S. military and include a representative cross-section of the diversity of Veterans.

The Grace Winkleman Byrne Papers (undated) consist of four typewritten essays, a manuscript about Utah titled "History of Grazing," and a photograph of Grace W. Byrne. Grace Winkleman Byrne wrote for the Las Vegas Sun, Las Vegas Review Journal, and the Henderson Pages, and she helped found the Henderson Chamber of Commerce.

The Anti-Defamation League Nevada Region Office Records (2003-2019) mainly contain photographs depicting Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Nevada Region Office events. The collection also includes a sign advertising ADL's "No Place For Hate" program; ARL's 2017 and 2018 gala, "Imagine a World Without Hate" programs and invitations; and 2018's Jurisprudence Luncheon invitation commemorating the achievements and contributions of Joe W. Brown.

Josiah Edward Spurr Papers

Abstract

Collection consists of an original manuscript, "Geology and Ore-Deposition at Tonopah, Nevada" by Josiah Edward Spurr (1870-1950) with hand-drawn diagrams, and letters discussing the donation of the manuscript. The manuscript, which was published in the journal Economic Geology in 1915, is a geological description of the Tonopah mining area; the Tonopah Mining Company is mentioned frequently. It is undated, but the publication date suggests it was written approximately 1913-1915.
