The websites archived in this series were selected by UNLV Special Collections and Archives staff to represent a broad overview of community reaction to COVID-19 in the Las Vegas Valley from March 2020 to July 2021. Websites from local news media, educational institutions, the hospitality industry, arts and entertainment industry, municipal governments, public health departments, and UNLV are represented in this series.

UNLV Libraries Collection of Digital Communication about COVID-19 in Las Vegas
This series contains rapidly captured Twitter data collected from March 2020 to June 2021 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Twitter data were captured using a data-mining process deployed from Rapidminer Studio using a developer’s token to access Twitter’s standard search API. Data was collected from the official Twitter accounts for UNLV (@UNLV) and the governor’s office (@GovSisolak). Twitter data were also captured to represent the impact of the pandemic on individuals and businesses in the Las Vegas Valley by using the following search strings filtered by a 100 mile radius around Clark County, Nevada: #vegassafe, #vegasshutdown, #COVID-19, #COVID19, #Coronavirus, #StayHomeforNevada.

UNLV Libraries Collection of Digital Communication about COVID-19 in Las Vegas
This series contains official email communication (UNLV Official) sent from February 28, 2020 through June 1, 2020 that documents UNLV’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic including closing and reopening the campus and budgetary impacts. Emails were sent to the campus community from administrative entities such as the Office of the President, the Office of Faculty Affairs, and Faculty Affairs as well as the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE).
