Oral history interview with Rob Levrant conducted by Claytee D. White and Stefani Evans on November 14, 2024 for the UNLV Remembers: an Oral History of the 6 December 2023 Shootings project. In this interview, Levrant, Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives and Lifelong Learning for the Division of Educational Outreach at UNLV, recalls his childhood, career, and eventual move to Las Vegas, Nevada. He shares that the day prior to the shooting he was in a car accidnet, so he was working from home on December 6, 2024 although his employees were on campus. He recalls communicating through Slack to account for everyone, fielding phone calls asking for directions on where they should go, and hearing the distress through the various phone calls. He was unable to reach his daughter who lived in Tonopah Hall, although eventually learned she was safe. He speaks of survivor’s guilt from being off site and of becoming even more determined to advocate for the safety of students and staff while they are on campus. Oral history interview with Daniel Rush conducted by Claytee D. White and Stefani Evans on October 28, 2024 for the Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Rush recalls a childhood in Chicago, Illinois and Woodland Hills, California. He recalls visiting Las Vegas, Nevada while attending California State University, Northridge (CSUN). After graduating with a B.A. in Communications, the future Vice President of Global Sports and Events Sales for MGM Resorts International headed to UNLV, where he earned his B.S. in Hospitality Management in 1994. He then was hired into the hospitality industry, working as a travel sales manager, leisure sales, and eventually into sports-related sales. He discusses hosting the Downtown Las Vegas Soccer Club in 2013, the National Hockey League's (NHL) 2016 expansion franchise, MGM Resorts International building T-Mobile Arena, and the National Football League (NFL) allowing the Oakland Raiders to come to Las Vegas. He talks of the Supreme Court's 2018 overturning of PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992), which then allowed states to determine whether they would allow sports betting. He addresses the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Oakland Athletics future relocation to Las Vegas, and shares his goal to bring international sports federations to Las Vegas. Oral history interview with Michael Bryant conducted by Claytee D. White and Stefani Evans on September 25, 2024 for the Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Bryant describes his childhood in Massachusetts, playing high school baseball, hockey, and basketball. He describes being a highly touted ninth-round pick drafted by the Boston Red Sox in his third year at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell (1980), but cutting his sports career short at 24 years of age. Oral history interview with Richard “Rich” Rose conducted by Claytee D. White and Stefani Evans on November 14, 2024 for the Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Rose recalls his childhood in Chappaqua, New York, where he played soccer, football, and golf and performed in band and summer theater at Horace Greeley High School. He describes his own public relations and marketing firm focusing on sports, primarily boxing, at a time when Las Vegas, especially Caesars Palace, was the boxing capital of the world. In 1988 Henry Gluck and Terry Lanni recruited him to Caesars World in Los Angeles, California. In this role, he wanted to do new things: he brought the Formula 1 race to Las Vegas; he overcame the National Hockey League's prohibition against cities that allow sports betting and in 1990 signed the contract for Las Vegas's first outdoor NHL game in 1991 featuring Wayne Gretzky. He also discusses working with Vince McMahon to bring Wrestlemania IX (1993) to Caesars. He worked with Caesars World until a management change in 1998.
