Abstract

Oral history interview with Kathy Foster conducted by Cheryle Trupp on October 05, 2004 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Foster reflects upon her 30-year career as a teacher and administrator with Montana’s Bozeman Public Schools (BPS) and Nevada’s Clark County School District (CCSD). She discusses the different positions that she has held, and describes the process by which she moved from BPS to CCSD. She reflects upon some of her biggest accomplishments and challenges, offers her opinion on student ethics, violence, and curriculum changes, and describes what she believes makes an effective administrator.

Kelly Adams interviews Lendon Barney (b. 1925) about his experiences as an early resident of Bunkerville, Nevada. Barney also discusses his membership in the Mormon church, as well as his career as a music teacher for schools in Clark County. Barney also describes some of the early development and changes in Nevada, such as the population growth, changes in housing prices, and the building of highways.

The Walter V. Long Photographs consist of three black-and-white photographic prints and corresponding negatives dating from approximately 1923 to 1966. The photographs include two formal portraits of Walter V. Long and one image of him as a teacher with the Tonopah High School Band in Southern Nevada.

This interview covers local entertainment, Lake Mead, school districts, and gaming’s effect on the educational system. Lestor also recalls his move to Nevada and offers a general overview of Henderson in 1954.
