Description

Daytime view of Fremont Street looking northwest from Second Street toward the Union Pacific Railroad station. The Golden Nugget Gambling Hall is seen on the southwest corner of Fremont and Second Streets, and the Eldorado Club and Apache Hotel are seen on the northwest corner. Signs for the Boulder Club, Frontier Club, White Spot Cafe, the Monte Carlo Club, Pioneer Club and Overland Hotel are also seen.

Bolden discusses social and environmental changes that have taken place in Nevada over the span of twenty years. Her husband, Mr. Bolden also weighs in on the discussion, adding his personal accountant of the storm of 1964, and his views on integration and employment in Nevada.

Garside discusses his father’s newspaper business and his personal knowledge of the early mining that took place in different parts of Nevada. He also talks about living in the town of Tonopah, Nevada, the Native Americans who lived in the area, and his experiences from living in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Oral history interview with Esther Wolverton conducted by David Haymack on March 13, 1981 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Wolverton discusses arriving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1927 and recalls her first impressions of the city. She also describes experiencing the first Helldorado Parade, social life in Las Vegas, and her employment as a waitress. Later, Wolverton discusses the construction and development of McCarran Airport. Lastly, she talks about population growth in Las Vegas and the significance gaming has to the city.
