Abstract

Oral history interview with Nell Jeffers conducted by Yatska Aldarondo on February 26, 1980 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Jeffers discusses her work as the student and faculty counselor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She also discusses some of the hardships of living in a desert, as well as her plans to move into private psychiatric practice.

Oral history interview with Henry Jimenez conducted by Andres Moses on May 23, 2006 for the UNLV @ 50 Oral History Project. In this interview Henry Jimenez discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in July of 1998, attending middle school and high school in Las Vegas, and attending University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He also discusses being in many UNLV student organizations like student government and the Latino fraternity. He then discusses taking over the chairmanship of the Ways and Means Committee for the UNLV student government.

Oral history interview with Flora Jones conducted by Claytee D. White on July 19, 2007 for the UNLV @ 50 Oral History Project. In this interview Flora Jones discusses getting a job at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), in the admissions office. She then discusses her work environment, the UNLV Campus, downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, and the students she worked with. She also shares her opinions of many facets of UNLV today, including the new student union and recreational buildings as well as UNLV becoming a Research I institution.

The digital images series (approximately 2000-2011) represent a section of Bill Hughes' work as a photographer and photojournalist. A number of images include bands, DJs, dancers, and performers in various nightclubs and bars in downtown Las Vegas and the Strip, taken for Las Vegas Weekly, including "Acoustic Strip," a weekly performance venue. It also contains a number of portraits taken for Hughes' work at various publications including CityLife and Business Press. Other subjects include politicians and political events; the University of Las Vegas, Nevada; architecture; scenic views of Las Vegas; and self-portraits.

Abstract

The UNLV TV Audiovisual Collection (1980-2023) is comprised of recordings of television programs produced by UNLV TV, a media production facility housed within the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The collection includes samples of various television programs which include special events, lectures, interviews with prominent speakers and visitors at UNLV, and campus and community related B-roll footage.

Abstract

The UNLV December 6, 2023 Memorial Collection (2023-2024) contains material documenting the response to the deadly shooting on UNLV's Maryland Parkway campus on December 6, 2023. The collection contains items left at spontaneous memorials, such as handwritten notecards, small religious tokens, bracelets, teddy bears, and artificial flowers. Also included in the collection are videos of the UNLV vigil service held on December 13, 2023, archived UNLV websites, and condolence items sent to campus administration. Additionally, two members of the UNLV community donated their personal photographs and journal entries relating to the day of the shooting.

Abstract

The UNLV Remembers: an Oral History of the 6 December 2023 Shooting interviews (2024-) contain all oral history interviews conducted by UNLV University Libraries Oral History Research Center. This project aims to enhance the historical record about the events of December 6, 2023 shooting with first-hand accounts of the tragedy, campus and community response, and recovery efforts. Interviews are with students, staff, faculty, and others. Digital audio available for all interviews; check collection inventory for individual narrators and more detailed information on specific interviews.
