Description

The Tropicana Hotel's float entry in the Helldorado Parade, Fremont Street, May, 1957. The float's banner reads" 8th Wonder of the World, Tropicana Girls." There are five visible platforms on the float, with eight total platforms. "Sphinx", with two showgirls, "Parthenon", with one showgirl, "Tower of Pisa", with one showgirl, and "Hanging Garden", with one showgirl. The top platform has a showgirl riding in a giant flower. There are three platforms on the far side of the float that not visible. The first one is partially visible, with two pyramids visible. The name of the platform is not visible, and the showgirl is mostly obscured. The float has just padded Joe W. Brown's Horseshoe at the corner of Fremont Street and 2nd Street, and is passing the Boulder Club, located at 118 Fremont street. The Boulder Club was in operation from 1931-1960. A sign on the Boulder Club reads ""Farmer" Page - Enjoy the Old West - Jackpots, Craps, Bar, Keno, Roulette, Twenty-One." A smaller banner reads "J. K. Houssels - "Farmer" Page - Jim Young - Larry Hezzelwood." The Hotel Apache, and the Fremont Hotel are visible in the background.

The Desert Inn Hotel's float entry in the Helldorado Parade, Fremont Street, Las Vegas, Nevada, May, 1958. The float is titled "Aladdin's Wonderful Lamp," and features a couple dressed as Aladdin and Princess Jasmine with a large Genie behind them. Several children are seated around them. The float has just passed Joe W. Brown's Horseshoe Club (in operation from 1935-1958), located 128 Fremont Street at the corner of Fremont Street and 2nd Street, and is passing the Boulder Club, located at 118 Fremont street. The Boulder Club was in operation from 1931-1960. Part of a sign for "Farmer" Page that is on the Boulder Club is partially visible on the left. The Hotel Apache and the Fremont Hotel are visible in the background. A few people can be seen watching the parade from the windows of the Boulder Club and the Fremont Hotel.

Four of the women are riding with flags. People can be seen watching the parade from the balconies and windows of the Fremont Casino. In the background, a marquee on the Fremont Carnival Inn reads "Fremont Fishing Derby April 1 -May 25 Register Now."

The float features three women around a model of an airplane with the tail number of N6478D, and has just passed the Silver Palace Lounge, and is in front of the Bird Cage Casino, located at 100 Fremont Street (the corner of First Street and Fremont Street). Located next to The Mint, The Bird Cage Casino was in operation between 1958-1959.

Description

Hotel Thunderbird float titled "Academy Awards of Show Business" was a sweepstakes award winner in the Helldorado Parade, May 1954. The float features a large replica of the Academy Award Oscar statuette, and five women are in gold body paint along the sides of the float. In the center of the float are two women in costume, while a third woman in costume rides on the top of the float under an arched canopy. The float is passing by the Traveler's Hotel Court (1100 E. Fremont Street), and the Lucky Motel (1111 E. Fremont Street) can be seen in the background. The original film is damaged.
