Mulroy, Patricia

Patricia Mulroy was born in Frankfurt, Germany on February 24, 1953. As a young girl, she lived in several different countries, but always felt that the United States was her home. Her experiences abroad led her to develop a fascination with government work and state service. She arrived in Nevada in 1974 to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In 1989, Mulroy became the general manager of the Las Vegas Valley Water District. She entered the field at a tumultuous time, facing the drought of the Colorado River and tension within the districts.

Lavigne, Randy, 1943-

Randy Lavigne was born September 27, 1943 in Emory Gap, Tennessee. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1994 and became the executive director of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Las Vegas Chapter in 1995.

Cagley, Lee, 1951-

Lee Cagley was born January 31, 1951 in the Panama Canal Zone. His father was a civil engineer for the Panama Canal Company, and after he left that job, Cagley spent his childhood in Dallas, Texas; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Des Moines, Iowa. He started to attend Rice University but left before he completed his degree in architecture. Cagley returned to college a few years later and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in interior design in 1975.

Orrock, Kevin T., 1951-

Kevin T. Orrock is president of Summerlin and vice president of Master Planned Communities for The Howard Hughes Corporation. He was born in Pioche, Nevada, and spent his early years in the San Francisco Bay area and in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Kevin graduated from a small liberal arts college with a degree in accounting, came to Las Vegas in 1974, and started working in the accounting department at the Desert Inn Hotel and Casino. He later earned his M.B.A. from University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Winston, Leandrew, 1947-

Leandrew Winston was born October 06, 1947 in Grady, Arkansas, and migrated first to California and then to Las Vegas, Nevada. In Las Vegas, Winston became a well-connected figure in the African American community and often told stories about his experiences with police brutality. He chose to work in public broadcasting, and in 1971 became the first African American to work at PBS at Channel 10. Winston started hosting “Ten on the Black side”, his own television news talk show in 1975, and later became the Minority Affairs Director at Channel 10.

Bartlett, David, 1940-

David Bartlett’s Nevada roots run far and deep. He was born in Las Vegas in 1940 (son to Fred Bartlett), but his family moved to Reno when David was in grade school. A great joy was for him to return to Las Vegas and spend time with both sets of grandparents: David and Julia Lorenzi (maternal) and Byron and Dessa Bartlett (paternal). In local history, both families represent the early entrepreneurship and craftsmanship of residents: from the Bartlett Brothers Hardware to Grandfather Lorenzi’s stonework that still graces such landmarks as the grottos at St.

Coleman, Samuel, 1928-

Samuel Coleman was born in Durant, Mississippi, in 1928. His family moved to Chicago. He worked at different jobs until he started working for Burlington Railroad as a cook. Samuel was drafted by the Army in 1951 and sent to Korea. After the war, he went back to work for Burlington Railroad as a waiter. Samuel retired from the railroad in the 1970s and worked in real estate, as the owner of a liquor store, a firefighter, a restaurant inspector, and as a deacon for his church. One of his daughters moved to Las Vegas, and he joined her in 1999.

Coleman, Sherrill J., 1941-

Sherrill Coleman was born in Newton, Kansas, in 1941. She worked as a housekeeper for a number of years. Sherrill and her first husband moved to Los Angeles County in 1964 where she took a temporary job in the elections department of the local government. In 1967 she became a file clerk for Los Angeles County's Department of Public Social Services. By the time Sherrill left the department, she was middle management in the auditing department. She moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and married Samuel Coleman in April 1999.
