A native of Hawthorne, Nevada, Ferrell joined the Mineral County Fire Department in 1977 and took EMT training in 1978. He worked for both the US Navy base in Hawthorne and the MCFD.

In 1960, Giller and her husband purchased the ambulance service in Reno, Nevada. Her company, AIDS Ambulance, was the main provider of ambulance services in Truckee Meadows until 1978. Due to competition between companies, Giller went to work for Mercy Ambulance. She spent over 50 years in the EMS field.

Giller was raised in Reno, Nevada, where his family owned AIDS Ambulance. He worked as a dispatcher before earning his EMT certifications in the 1980s.

After graduating from Bonanza High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, Gunter worked for Mercy Ambulance. He later worked as a paramedic at the Mercury Test Site, which helped pay for medical school at the University of Nevada.
