Williams, Joe, 1918-1999
Jazz musician Joe Williams was born Joseph Goreed in the small farming town of Cordele, Georgia on December 12, 1918. When Joe was four years old he and his mother moved to Chicago to be near family. The jazz music scene of Chicago in the early 1920s greatly influenced Joe in his later life. Years later he recalled going to the Vendome Theatre with his mother to hear Louis Armstrong play his trumpet.

Corporate Body Alternate Name
The Black Community Organizations Network, is composed of African-American community volunteers. These volunteers plan the presentation of the annual baccalaureate ceremony to honor African-American high school graduates. The ceremony is usually held in conjunction with the Clark County School District commencement ceremonies.

Eva G. Simmons was born in Somerville, Texas December 31, 1938. She grew up in Austin, Texas. Simmons moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1963. She worked for the Clark County School District, and has an elementary school in North Las Vegas, Nevada named for her. Eva Goins Simmons never imagined moving to Las Vegas, Nevada, but she moved here twice: Once briefly in 1957 to be with her sister and then again continuously in 1963 after graduating from University of Texas, Austin and marrying her husband George Simmons.
