Moran, Peter V., 1909-1975

Monsignor Peter V. Moran was born in Mohill, Ireland on February 15, 1909. He was ordained in 1937 and moved to Nevada the same year. He served as a pastor at churches in Ely, Carson City, Winnemucca, Gardnerville, and Elko. He moved to Henderson and was pastor at St. Peter's. He passed away on vacation in Ireland in 1975.

Warner, Paul W., 1900-1980

Paul William Warner was born May 22, 1900. He later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and worked in mining and ranching. He served four terms in the Nevada State Assembly (1945, 1947, 1949, and 1951). He relocated to Mountain Springs, on the road to Pahrump, and helped to create the town. Warner died on January 31, 1980.

Hedges, Hazel, 1922-2006

Hazel Mae Bowden was born on February 22, 1922. She married Hershell Wade on November 30, 1939, and had one son, James Hedges. The couple divorced and in 1950 she married Charles William Hedges. She moved from Kansas City to Las Vegas with her husband and son in 1952. She worked briefly as a waitress in the dining room at the Thunderbird and then became a stay at home mother until her son was in junior high school. Then after she went to real estate school, she went to work in commercial real estate at Bond Realty.

Savalli, Janet

Janet Savalli's family moved from Phoenix, Arizona, to Henderson, Nevada, in 1945 so her father could work at the Basic Magnesium plant. A few years later, when she was a junior in high school, Janet began her 46-plus years career at the Southern Nevada Telephone Company, which eventually became Sprint. During that period she held several positions, including operator, supervisor, schedule clerk, trainer, investigator, and community relations coordinator. Janet also talks about the atomic bomb testing at Camp Mercury and Camp Desert Rock near Las Vegas.

McClure, Florence

Florence McClure worked on behalf of women in Las Vegas, co-founding the organization Community Action Against Rape (CAAR) and advocating for incarcerated women. Born Florence Alberta Schilling in Centralia, Illinois on September 26, 1919, she attended MacMurray College for Women before transferring to Hardin Business College where she graduated in October 1941.

Montes, Frances

Frances "Fran" Montes is the first woman to serve as president of Hispanics in Politics (HIP) and one of a small number of Hispanic women who are acknowedged as spokespersons for the diverse Hispanic community in the Las Vegas Valley. She is the Diversity Officer for Bechtel Nevada Corporation, a member of the Latin Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Community Advisory Board of the Women's Research Institute of Nevada, and one of the earliest members of NALA (Nevada Association of Latin Americans).
