Porter, Irene E., 1943-2012

After Irene Porter's father's retirement from the Air Force, the family moved to Las Vegas where her aunt and uncle were involved in the gaming industry. After she married, she and her husband Dick moved to Boston. They moved back to Las Vegas due to the bad economy in Boston. Irene worked for the Clark County Planning Department as a secretary but moved up to doing the work of the director, but without the title nor the pay of that position, so she went to work in the planning department of the city of North Las Vegas and became its director of planning.

Rampton, Renée Marchant, 1935-

Renée grew up in a family of fifteen children. In 1956 she married musician Roger Rampton, a successful percussionist. They soon moved to Las Vegas where Roger performed on the Strip. She remained active in her Mormon faith and the Church's music ministry. When the Clark County School District was going to cut their music programs in the early 1970s, she became a vocal community opponent. In the 1970s the Mormon Church opposed the Equal Rights Amendment.

Schamaun, Marie E., 1919-2015

Marie Schamaun was born in Bazine, Kansas on March 3, 1919 to Mary Blehur and Peter Yeager. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Gratza, Russia. She married Parry John Schamaun in 1942, and they lived in Bazine until 1945, and spent 1945 to 1947 in Lafayette, Indiana. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1952 with her husband. She was active in social life and later worked at the Tropicana. She passed away on February 20, 2015.

Conley, Marge

Marge Conley spent her childhood in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up during the Great Depression and began working at a young age to help her family. She became a union member and used her union traveling card to transfer from Chicago to Las Vegas, Nevada. She worked as a server at the Desert Inn and Caesars Palace and was a member of the Culinary Workers Union Local 226.

Clark, Wilbur, 1908-1965

Wilbur Clark (1908-1966) developed and designed the Desert Inn Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. As the head of the resort, he promoted the Desert Inn and Las Vegas throughout the nation.

Born to Shirley and Lulu Clark in Keyesport, Illinois on December 27, 1908, Wilbur Clark moved to San Diego, California at sixteen. He worked a series of jobs before moving to Reno, Nevada in 1951 and starting a career in gaming. After several years in Reno, he moved to Las Vegas in 1938 and, with several partners, opened a casino on Boulder Highway.
