Unger, Michael, 1947-

Mike Unger was born in Queens, New York in 1947, and spent most of his childhood in Long Island, growing up in a predominantly Jewish and Italian community. As a young adult, Unger was already working hard, running one of his family’s restaurant after school. When he was in high school, his family moved to Los Angeles to accommodate his father’s health needs, and eventually end up in Las Vegas by 1967. Over the next two decades, Unger would work at nine properties in the city.

Weinberger, William S. "Billy", 1913-1996

William S. "Billy" Weinberger (1913-1996) was president of Caesars Palace in the 1960s and 1970s. He was also president of Bally's Park Place casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey in the 1970s and 1980s and ambassador emeritus for the Golden Nugget and the Mirage in Las Vegas in the 1980s and 1990s.

Wilner, Leo, 1917-1998

Leo Wilner (1917- 1998) was born in Brooklyn, New York. Leo graduated from Jefferson High School in New York and for two years attended school to be a rabbi. He quit to work and help his family. In the early 1960s, friends talked Wilner into moving to Las Vegas where he became executive director Temple Beth Sholom.

Cardle, James A., 1950-

James Cardie is from Brainerd, a small town in central Minnesota. He attended Catholic grade school in Brainerd and a boarding high school in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin.

James earned an undergraduate degree at Holy Cross in western Massachusetts, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He did research (physical experiments and numerical modeling) at St. Anthony Falls Hydraulic Laboratory, created a computer program that was used in the design of many large storm sewer systems

Leone, Frank

Frank Leone was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1940. He began playing the piano as a young child and by junior high school, Leone was participating in the school orchestra alongside Frankie Avalon. In high school he played piano in the symphony and joined Local 77 in Philadelphia in 1955 at the age of fifteen. While in Philadelphia, Leone started playing teenage dances as a member of a quintet and eventually began recording. Frank would earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the Curtis Institute.

Allen, Harvey, 1931-

Harvey Allen grew up poor in Philadelphia. After taking singing lessons at the Artie Singer Vocal School, he got jobs singing in night clubs up and down the east coast. He also took acting classes in New York and performed at the Copa Club. In the 1950s, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and auditioned for Jack Entratter at the Sands Hotel and Casino where he performed with numerous entertainers including Lena Home, Louis Armstrong, Tallulah Bankhead and Robert Merrill.

Brewer, Andrew

Andrew "Andy" Brewer was born in and went to high school in La Grange, Georgia. Brewer joined the military and discusses his attempts to get a job after his release, and his experiences in New York City. He shares that after working in a factory, running a driving school, and working as a porter, he ended up as a bus driver for 21 years. After his wife passed away in 1999, Andy was searching for somewhere to retire. He tried the South because his daughters were there, and he lived for a short time in Durham, North Carolina.

Bowser, Ida M.

Ida Bowser was born in Tallulah, Louisiana, and in 1955 at the age of 10 she was brought to Las Vegas, Nevada to join her mother and other family members. The family originally lived on Washington and H Streets, and later moved to Madison Avenue. Ida and her brothers and sisters attended Madison Elementary School right down the block.

Moss, Corinne Wollman

Corinne "Corky" Moss (née Wollman; April 22, 1924 – 2001) was a philanthropist involved in establishing and supporting multiple educational and community efforts in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was the daughter of Murray Wollman, a Las Vegas landowner and developer, and his wife Agnes. The family moved to Las Vegas in 1936, where Moss graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1941. She graduated from Stanford University in 1945 and married Melvin S. Moss in 1946, with whom she had two daughters.
