R. Ian Ross was born December 12, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan. He lived in Detroit, Michigan and Los Angeles, California until moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1953. He married Irmalee Anne Ross on September 02, 1961. He held various careers including attorney and an entrepreneur.
Lois Tarkanian was born on April 28, 1934 to Josephine Agnes Hunter and Elmer Gustav Hunter. She married Jerry Tarkanian in 1955 in Fresno, California. They moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1973. She was an educator, a member of the Clark County School District School Board, and a City Councilperson.
John Wilhelm was born on July 08, 1945 to Jane Wilhelm, a teacher, in Virginia. He married Elizabeth Gilbertson, a health care strategist, on February 22, 1969. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1987. He was the president of UNITE HERE (Union of Needletrades, Industrial, and Textile Employees and Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union).
Harvey Riceberg was born in Canada and received their pharmacy degree in Arizona. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1968 to receive a license because Arizona wouldn’t recognize him as a citizen. Riceberg married his wife, Janis, in 1975.
Phyllis Silvestri was born on July 18, 1922 in Montreal, Canada. She moved to the United States from Canada when she was in her early 20s. By 1953 she had moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and was married to Vincent Silvestri. A few years later she and her husband built a home in the John S. Park neighborhood area.
Irene Doty was born July 16, 1914 in Dangerfield, Texas. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in December of 1942, spending her first Christmas in the city at the El Cortez Hotel. She was a justice of the peace in Las Vegas, and even stood in a jury for potential murder cases. Doty passed away in September of 1978.
In 2016 Catherine Cortez Masto made history. She became the first woman elected to serve the state of Nevada as US Senator. This also came with the benchmark of being the first Latina to serve as senator in the US Congress. She is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1986 and earned her law degree at Gonzaga University in 1990.
Maryann (Timbuck) Rivera was born November 29, 1945 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rivera’s grandparents arrived to Las Vegas in 1905 and became integrated in the small city by becoming lawyers. Her mother was also involved with community groups, like the Junior League Basketball Team. Rivera married her husband, Lyle, in 1967.
Charlene Cox Cruze was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her early ancestors traveled through the area in the 1850s, and her grandparents settled in Las Vegas in 1905, the year it was founded. She is a registered Cherokee, Daughter of the American Revolution, and Daughter of the Utah Pioneers. As of 2010 she worked as a Las Vegas tour guide.
Joe Friedman worked in Caesars Tahoe, first as a cashier in the nightclub and later as a dealer. He also spent six months dealing in the casino on the Cyrstal Harmony. Joe moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and worked at various casinos such as the Hard Rock, Green Valley Ranch, Wynn, Palms, and MGM as a dealer, pit manager, and an assistant shift manager.
