James, Audrey, 1914-

Audrey James was born July 13, 1914 in Columbia, Mississippi. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1952 and over the course of her decades in Las Vegas, she has worked as an elementary school teacher. James has always been an active church member and continues to be involved in food bank operations to feed the poor. She has traveled the world and spearheaded a book drive to benefit children in the African countries she has visited.

Coleman, Rachel Lee, 1936-

Rachel Coleman was born in in Fayette, Mississippi. Rachel came to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1957 from Vicksburg, Mississippi, with her husband and young son. She advanced from her position as glass washer at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino to executive housekeeper at the Hacienda Hotel and Casino in 1969. Rachel became a representative for the Culinary Union 226 in 1973, then became department head of the union in 1981, and finally ran for union president in 1987.

Martin, Donna Giuffe, 1944-

Donna Giuffre-Martin was born November 17, 1944 in Frankfort, Indiana. Her family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1952 as her dad quickly became a radio and television personality. She graduated from Rancho High School in 1962 and worked for various educational organizations that furthered women’s education. She married her husband, George, on March 12, 1988. They both of them spent many hours volunteering with the homeless.

Taylor, D. R.

D. Taylor grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia. He graduated from Georgetown University. As a new college graduate, Taylor headed west to Lake Tahoe, Nevada where he was hired in 1981 by the Culinary Union to organize workers and oversee an eleven-and-a-half-month strike. The Culinary Union then sent him to organize in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1984.

Ostler Stout-Hall, Margaret

Margaret Ostler Stout-Hall moved to Las Vegas in 1951, when she was twelve and her father bought Las Vegas's Seven-Up Bottling Company. She grew up in Rancho Circle and went to Las Vegas high School, where she became a Rhythmette. Margaret went to work doing scheduling for Senator Harry Reid after she lost her husband and sons in an airplane accident.

Jackson Ferguson, Edna

Edna Jackson-Ferguson was born October 15, 1897 in Overbrook, Kansas. She married her husband, who worked on the construction of Hoover (Boulder) Dam, on May 17, 1923 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Before moving permanently to Las Vegas, Jackson-Ferguson was a teacher in Idaho. On July 1, 1930, the Jackson family made their way to Nevada, but they weren’t able to move to Boulder City until a year later after the town was built.

Block, Arthur

Arthur Block was born on July 12, 1924 in Reno, Nevada. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Edith Block in 1946. They moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1968. He had a career in law enforcement and also worked at Summa Corporation as security after retiring from law enforcement. He passed away on January 27, 2011.

Lisby, Lee Henry

Lee Henry Lisby was born July 01, 1902 in Louisiana. In 1942, Lisby moved from Tallulah, Louisiana to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he found success in owning real estate. He retired as a sawmill worker, truck driver, construction laborer, and hotel porter. His first housing was an old Army hospital tent, and then he built a house. All of his ten children graduated from high school in Las Vegas.

Vassiliadis, Rosemary A.

Rosemary Vassiliadis was born in Chicago and went to DePaul University, where she earned her degree in accountancy. She worked as an accountant in Chicago, then after she married Billy Vassiliadis, she moved to Las Vegas where he lived. Rosemary worked as a financial analyst with the City of Las Vegas, then worked for Clark County, then became deputy director of aviation at McCarran International Airport. She managed the airport in the six days after the Nine-Eleven Terrorist Attacks.

Von Tobel, Edward, Jr., 1913-2009

Edward Von Tobel Jr. was the son of Mary and Edward Von Tobel Sr. Edward Von Tobel Jr. was married to Evelyn J. Leonard. They had four children: Sharon Schmitt, Katherine Acord, Susan Von Tobel, and Gretchen McQuade.
