Lois Tarkanian was born on April 28, 1934 to Josephine Agnes Hunter and Elmer Gustav Hunter. She married Jerry Tarkanian in 1966 in Fresno, California. Together, the couple moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1973. That same year, her late husband, Jerry Tarkanian, began his legendary career as UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball coach, a role that cemented their family’s place in the state’s history. Dr. Tarkanian served on the Clark County School Board and as a Las Vegas City Councilwoman, where she represented Ward 1 for over a decade.
Southern Nevada Coalition of Concerned Women, Inc. (SNCCW) was chartered October 2, 1996 and has served as a vital 501(c)3 Community Service Organization. On January 28, 2017, the members agreed to file the Certificate of Dissolution. Members contributed more than $50,000 to assist students in the Clark County Summer School Program fulfill educational requirements, $10,000 to Rainbow Dreams Academy, and awarded two $1,000 scholarships in April, 2017 to two students to travel and tour Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs).
The Sin Sity Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are a Las Vegas chapter of men who dress outrageously as nuns in drag and do charity work to promote HIV/AIDs awareness. According to the Las Vegas Weekly they "The Las Vegas chapter of the Sisters — a vocational order of mostly male nuns in drag, with 30 chapters and missions around the country — take no government money and vow to help those in need, without judgment.

Russell Birdwell & Associates was an publicity firm for Hollywood celebrities. Russell Juarez Birdwell, born on October 17, 1903, first worked George Hearst newspaper companies in Los Angeles, California and New York, New York, but also directed silent films in the late 1920s. he founded Russell Birdwell & Associates in February 1939, and opened offices in Beverly Hills, California; Chicago, Illinois; London, England; and New York. The firm provided advertising and publicity for celebrities including Jane Russell.
The Barrick Lecture Series was established in 1980 by philanthropist Marjorie Barrick in honor of her late husband, Edward, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lectures take place two to three times every year. Invited lecturers have included politicians, journalists, broadcasters, diplomats, and international figures.
