Paul Smith was a prominent African American journalist and editor. He began his career with The Kansas City Call and served as Managing Editor of The Tulsa Call in 1930. In 1970, he became Managing Editor of The Sentinel Voice in Las Vegas, succeeding Rollo S. Vest. That same year, he played a key role in organizing the Black Publishers Convention, held from January 19–23 at the International Hotel in Las Vegas. The event was acclaimed as the most successful workshop in the history of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA).
