The first African American attorney (along with Earle W. White) admitted to practice law in the state of Nevada. Reid was elected Justice of the Peace for Las Vegas Township in 1970, making him the first Black Justice of the Peace in Clark County.

Helen Anderson was born November 23, 1949 to Ulah and Sampsen Walker in Ferndale, Arkansas. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1962, where she spent most of her childhood. She married "Big" Willie Anderson and together they owned Hamburger Heaven, a local restaurant. Anderson had two children with her husband, Karen and Fredrick.
