Helen Jane Wiser Stewart was born in 1854 in Springfield, Illinois. When she was nine years old, the family moved to Nevada, and then to Sacramento, California in 1863. Helen was educated in Sacramento and in 1873 she married Archibald Stewart in Stockton, California.

Stillings, Jamey

Photographer Jamey Stillings was born in 1955 and grew up in Oregon. Stillings is the principal photographer for Jamey Stillings Photography, Inc. He has a BA in Art from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon and an MFA in Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. Stillings’ work spans fine art, documentary, and commissioned projects including The Bridge at Hoover Dam and The Evolution of Ivanpah Solar.

Symens-Bucher, Anne

Anne Elizabeth Symens-Bucher was born on September 17, 1957, in Alameda, California. Anne married Terry Symens-Bucher on October 4, 1986, and they had five children: Chiara, Catherine, John, Timothy, and Robert.

Symens-Bucher obtained a bachelor of arts degree from Holy Names University.

Symens-Bucher was with the Franciscaus St. Barbara Province for twenty-five years. Symens-Bucher co-founded the Nevada Desert Experience.

Taft, Robert W., 1925-

Robert W. Taft was born on November 1, 1925, in Sioux City, Iowa. Robert married Jean on January 22, 1957, and they had three children: Michael W. Taft, Rebecca T. Ashley, and Mary T. Clark.

Taft attended College Notre Dame. Taft also served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Taft was the assistant manager for plans, engineering, and budget for the Nevada Test Site.

LAS VEGAS - Legendary basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian, who took the Runnin’ Rebels to four Final Fours and brought home the national championship in 1990, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, in Las Vegas. He was 84.

A campus memorial event is being planned. Details will be announced soon.

Taylor, Richard B. (Richard Blackburn), 1929-2011

Richard "Dick" Blackburn Taylor was a prominent businessman in Las Vegas, Nevada and amateur historian of Southern Nevada. Taylor was born on January 31, 1929 in Quincy, Illinois and grew up in Glendale, California. After graduating high school in 1947, he attended Washington and Lee University, the University of Southern California, and the University of Hawaii. He served in the 4th Infantry Division of the United States Army in Germany during the occupation following WWII. In 1957, he married Charlene Flora Belknap and they had four children.
