Oral history interview with Pauline Barlow and Katie Ford conducted by Caroline Logsdon on March 20, 1976 and April 07, 1976, respectfully, for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Barlow talks about her move to Las Vegas, Nevada at a young age, her church membership, and her membership in social clubs. Ford talks about her early life in Beatty, Nevada and working at her family-owned gas station and hotel in Beatty. They both also discuss atomic testing, economic and environmental changes, improvement in technology, and social changes.

Ford discusses social life in Las Vegas, Nevada in the early days. She discusses how the railroad, Hoover Dam, and the Basic Magnesium Plant brought money into Las Vegas. She recalls Sammy David Jr. performing at the El Rancho Casino, the Helldorado Parade being a big western celebration, atomic tests, and witnessing the city’s transformation from a small farming town to a major gambling city.

Foster then discusses helping the development of the special education field in Clark County and throughout the country, including the legislation and training toward the education program itself. Foster ends the interview by recalling his personal experiences and importance of helping the mentally and physically disabled.
