Biographical / Historical Note
Howard Schwartz is a notable gaming expert in Las Vegas, Nevada having served as editor, manager, and Marketing Director of the Gambler's Book Club, and as of 2014 as the Director. Schwartz was born in 1940 and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Montana, a master's degree in Science Writing from Kansas State University, and a second master's from the University of Northern Colorado in Secondary Education. He worked as a high school reading instructor before becoming an editor for the Gambler's Book Club in 1989, where he worked on several of their gaming magazines. The Gambler's Book Club was founded in 1964 by John and Edna Luckman as a place of learning for gamblers. Also referred to as the Gambler's Bookshop, the Club is located on South Eastern Avenue in Las Vegas, Nevada as of 2022.

Materials were donated by Howard Schwartz in 2014; accession number 2014-021.
Processing Note
The collection was minimally processed by Tom Sommer in 2014 at the time of accessioning. Material is described at the box level. The material was quickly reviewed to provide a general description of the contents of each box and an estimate of dates represented in each box. Loose documents were foldered. No further work was performed on the materials. In 2022, Kyle Gagnon relabeled folders to current professional standards.
