Biographical / Historical Note
Bullfrog Mine was discovered in 1904 near Beatty, Nevada. The mine contained gold and its discovery is credited as helping end a thirty-year economic depression in Nevada. The height of the mining boom created by this mine lasted until 1906. While Shorty Harris is widely credited with discovering the mine, Charles Kielhofer believed the true discovers were Otis Johnson and Geo Ladd. While the two have not been credited with discovering the mine, on April 6, 1906, Johnson and other claimants were awarded $150,000 from a lawsuit against Bullfrog Mining Company.
