The committee members are pursuing two of our platform objectives prior to the
next meeting.
•
A Celebrity Parade- One of our projects is to expose young ladies in our community (AKAteens) to great African American Leaders and Famous People. This month two events came to our attention, Maya Angelou, (too soon to arrange) and Dr .Johnnetta Cole, noted anthropologist, President Emeritus of
Selman College and currently President of Bennett College. She will be speaking at a luncheon on March 31, 2007 at the Sun Coast Hotel. We wanted to sponsor a table of 5 or ten girls to attend. The Executive Board suggested we see if Sorors might sponsor the girls at a cost of $30 each. (A Special price negotiated by Soror Bertha) Sorors responded fantastically. Through your efforts there will be 10 AKATeens attending this most informative event. The Young ladies will meet
with Dr. Cole at 11pm prior to the Luncheon. Thanks again Sorors!
“A Love Basket” Recognition for our own local officials who have worked hard for the community we live in. Sorors: Celeste Brown, Brenda Dumas and Patti

The Economic Growth of the Black Family: To promote the economicgrowth of the Black family, we willprovide
activities that enable and support the quality of family life which help overcome barriers that hinder positive
social and economic growth.
The committee agreed to launch an Adopt a Family Initiative for the first year. We also realized that
within the core of a family structure, the Black Male, in
particular, may face potentially daunting challenges if he
were raising children without a female in the household. I So we have targeted a family which has a single father I
with three children.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority to Hold 5th Annual Emerald Ball
Las Vegas, NV - February 19th, 2008 - Theta Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will hold its 5th Annual Emerald Ball, a fundraiser for academic scholarships, at the Monte Carlo Hotel
and Casino on Saturday March 29th, 2008 at 6PM. The program will recognize individuals that have helped build economic progress in the Las Vegas community. It is expected that in attendance will be members of the philanthropic community that have advocated for and supported educational initiatives, economic progress and health care improvement. Other attendees will be political leaders and representatives from the media.
“It is our belief that given the opportunity and resources to explore, develop and devise their own answers, all people will create unique, culturally relevant, and sustainable economic systems for themselves, for their families and their communities, ”, stated Barbara McCants-Hill, President of Theta Theta Omega Chapter. Ms. McCants-Hill continued by emphasizing that, “Over the last 5 years Theta Theta Omega has received incredible gifts of grace and generosity from those who have touched and been touched by our
organization. We recognize that the brilliance, intellect and ingenuity of our youth are gifts that must be nurtured. One of the sorority’s missions is to provide those youth with a means for fulfilling their educational goals, so that they can utilize those gifts; working as future economic, political and community leaders. This fundraiser allows us to achieve this mission.”
At the forefront of this celebration is a tribute to innovative community leaders with special awards to acknowledge their achievements in promoting the economic wellness of the Las Vegas community. Alpha Kappa Alpha’s pervasive, demanding and essential priority is the promotion of economic awareness, economic sufficiency and an economic engagement for betterment of the community. Theta Theta-Omega Chapter will be honoring individuals in five categories that support the sorority’s national platforms which embody those priorities. The five categories are the Non-Traditional Entrepreneur; Economic Keys to Success; The Economic Growth of the Black Family; Economic Educational Advancement through Technology and Health Resource Management and Economics. The formal evening will include dinner and dancing with music supplied by the band “Reeses Pieces”
Over the last 100 years Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority has been a catalyst for social and economic justice for people nationwide. Founded in 1908, AKA is a sisterhood created to effect change—committed to improving the stature of women and serving humankind. Since the sorority’s inception Alpha Kappa Alpha women have worked to build strong, healthy, culturally vital communities throughout the U.S. and around the world, pursuing a mission of “service to all mankind”. The organization celebrated its Centennial Anniversary at Howard University in Washington D.C, on January 15th.
Tickets to the event are $75.00. If you are interested in attending this special evening, contact Peggy Selma at702-233-3832orTinaRimmeyat702-233-3832. ToreceivemoreinformationonAlphaKappaAlpha Sorority Inc, visit www.akal908.org.

Being the owner of a successful business is no easy task, however Jennifer Coleman, the owner of a Florist & Gift shop in the Las Vegas Valley has done this since 1984. She has continued with the same motto: “As long as the door swings and the telephone rings, I will continue to give back some of that, that God has given and blessed me with”. In addition to owning the business, she has served as a member at large for the State of
Nevada’s OSHA Review Board, member of the National Floral Association,
National Association of Floral Designers and has been honored one of Americas top 200 Black Female Executives and Entrepreneurs, a Distinguished Women in Southern Nevada and received commendations from Senator Harry Reid for her continued community involvement and donations. She is the proud mother of four (4) wonderful children and three (3) beautiful grand children. We salute Jennifer D. Coleman.
