Harriet E. Barlow, Ph.D
President f
} y / jl4f Chapter in Henderson, NV. Her commitment to Alpha Kappa Alpha began when she was initiated into the Gamma Kappa chapter in the spring of 2000 on
the campus of Tuskegee University, an HBCU in Tuskegee, AL. After graduation, she remained a general member until she moved to the Las Vegas area and joined a group of local sorors who eventually became an interest group known as the Pearls of Henderson. She ultimately went on to be one of 29 chartering members of Psi Upsilon Omega, only the 2nd chapter to be chartered in the state of Nevada in nearly 50 years.
Professionally, Soror Zephanye is a highly respected clinical pharmacist. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Florida A&M University, an HBCU that leads the nation in the production of African American pharmacists. She currently serves as the Clinical Manager of the Department of Pharmacy at Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center where she manages a team of 10 pharmacists and 16 pharmacy technicians. She is also an Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience Preceptor at Roseman University of Health Sciences, University of Arizona and Creighton University providing clinical expertise in Adult Acute Critical Care and mentorship to doctoral students in their final year of pharmacy school. She also serves as a mentor to college students in the Sewanee Multicultural Health Society (Premed and Prehealth undergraduates at the University of the South, Sewanee, TN).
As a member of Psi Upsilon Omega chapter, Soror Zephanye is currently serving her second term as Grammateus and Chairman of the Target II Heath Promotion Committee, as well as the newly appointed Chairman of the Connection Committee. She is honored to also be serving in her first Regional appointment by Regional Director Carol R. Dixon as the Intermountain Cluster Coordinator. The Intermountain Cluster is comprised of 5 graduate and 3 undergraduate chapters in the states of Nevada, Arizona and Utah.
Outside of sorority activities, Soror Zephanye is an active charter member of the Las Vegas Chapter of the Florida A&M University National Alumni Association where she serves as the Recording Secretary. She will lead the efforts to charter a Las Vegas Alumni chapter for Tuskegee University as well. She is also an active participant with the Frias Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization and volunteers as needed for Mrs. Vanyo Ho's 3rd grade class at Mabel Hoggard Elementary Math and Science Magnet School.
Soror Zephanye is married to HoneyDo Samuel Sistrunk, Regional Supervisor at Security Finance Corporation. They are the proud parents of four children: Quinton (17), Jasmine (16), Zerryn (8) and Mychael (7). In her spare
time, Soror Zephanye enjoys arts and crafts and event planning. Her motto in life is "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about."

National Alliance on Menta Illness
During the month of July, 2016, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Theta Theta Omega Chapter will remember, Soror Bebe Moore Campbell and The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) as a time for public education about senous mental illness in diverse communities.
In 2008, the U.S. House of Representatives designated July as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month in honor of the leading African American novelist and journalist, who also was a voice for individuals and families affected by mental Illness. Soror Campbell was a founding member of NAMI Urban Los Angeles, CA and was an advocate for the mentally ill. She passed away in 2006 from brain cancer.
Mental illness affects one m four American families and people in diverse communities are no exception. The U.S. Surgeon General has reported that minorities:
are less likely to receive diagnosis and treatment for their mental illness have less access to and availability of mental health services
often receive a poorer quality of mental health care
are underrepresented in mental health research.
A few of Soror Campbell's best-selling books included Your Blues Ain't Like Mine (1992), Brothers and Sisters (1994), Singing in the Comeback Choir (1998) and 72-Hour Hold (2005). She was co-founder of NAMI Urban Los Angeles.
In support of our LNDS (Target 2), let s make a commitment to read at least one book written by Soror Bebe Moore Campbell. Here s a list of her books: http://www.amazQn.eom/Bebe-Moore-Campbell/e/B000APV76Q

The Global Impact committee and the Sisterly Relations Committee
coordinated a sew-in on May 7, 2016 after our chapter meeting. Sorors gathered and sewed pillowcase dresses for an afternoon of food, fun and pillowcase fashion. Some sorors sewed, some ironed, some cut the arm holes and necks. It was a wonderful afternoon, and everyone had a good time working on our Sorority Initiatives.
We are planning another day of sew-in fun on June 4, 2016 after the chapter meeting. We are asking sorors to bring more pillow cases, sewing machines and trim for the dresses. We will sew up our last bunch of dresses. We are asking all members who have sewn dresses to bring them so we can get a count of how many we have. We are aiming for one dress
for each member of the chapter. Soror Lavonne and her committee hope you all can make it. Lunch will be provided, including her peach cobbler.
