    wow
Thanks for selecting me as a delegate to the 76th Far West Regional Conference. The Sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha really know how to take care of business and have fun at the same time. I served on the decoration committee, and over the last few months we worked hard with Ina Dorman to make the African dolls (120) and napkins rings (1000).
Decorations for the ball were stunning. On Wednesday, I worked at the airport greeting delegates. Delegates who were staying at the Flamingo could register and get their room keys at the airport. I heard many positive comments about the warm greetings. The shirts that Soror Diane Stith ordered set us apart at the airport and throughout the hotel.
On Thursday our chapter strutted in tire conference with fabulous music from the Mojave High School band. Each person in attendance received a green coin purse. The opening plenary session was magical. When people asked me about the convention, my response was I have never met such accomplished, polished women who could really deliver a message. The speakers were outstanding.
The Silver Star Luncheon was exciting. Sharon Walton was a new Silver Star sorors. The new silver sorors waltzed into the room blazing with the accomplishments of twenty-five years of service to AKA. Every meal was different and the crab soup was a hit with the people at our table. Mrs. Graves was one of my favorite speakers. She focused on the sisterly relationship that could be the focus of retaining sorors in a chapter.
The Public Meeting on Friday was embraced by the local community to honor community leaders who have impacted the Las Vegas Community. The glass vase presented was unique and beautiful. A reception was held after the meeting. The hors d'oeuvres were abundant and delicious. I had a great time socializing with friends I only see at this kind of occasion. I was surprised at how much community support we receive and give.
Saturday I attended two additional plenary sessions. At the end of the third plenary session, Long Beach extended a rousing invitation to the 77th Far Western Regional Conference in April, 2006. This being my first regional conference I really enjoyed the performance but wished I could have seen our presentation in Portland.
The Granddad event took place on Saturday night, the African Ball. All the sorors of the chapter changed quickly from business attire to our fabulous African attire and we quickly went to work transforming the room with handmade African dolls and napkins and programs. The crowds were at the door at 7:15 p.m. When the door opened at 8:00 p.m., over one thousand people dined on rib-eye steak. Guests were entertained by the African troupe dancers and a fashion show colorfully narrated by Soror Jacquelyn Caffey. Reese Piece provided jazz music for the guests to dance away the night. On Sunday morning Sorors decked out in White to attend the Ivy Beyond the Wall service coordinated by Soror Annette. One of our dear Soror Crear was remembered. The final event was the Prayer Breakfast. After entertaining all night, Sorors LaVonne and Ina sang with the St. James Choir during the breakfast. Soror Willa White coordinated this moving closing program.
Again, thanks for selecting me as a delegate. I am encouraging all sisters with talent to enter the craft, photography, creative writing, and scrapbook contests next year. I also served on the exhibition committee with Soror Barbara. I know Theta Theta Omega has many talented sisters. We want to be in the house next year. I have many pictures of various events; please let me know if you want copies.
    Respectfully Submitted Soror Brenda Dumas
